The Holladay Rifle and Pistol Shooters Association (HRA) was founded in 1907 by a group of riflemen from Holladay, Utah. The HRA has been an advocate for the rights of gun owners and shooters in the Utah Valley since its inception. In 1924, the HRA helped to organize and host the first NRA convention in Salt Lake City. The Holladay Rifle and Pistol Shooters Association continues to be a mainstay at NRA conventions across the United States. Today, there are more than 2,000 members of the HRA who participate in events throughout the year. Membersrange from beginners to experienced shooters. They enjoy practicing their firearms skills at local range facilities as well as participating in NRA-sponsored national shoot events such as clay pigeon shooting, shotgunning, muzzleloading and traphooting tournaments.

Gun targets in Holladay, Utah date back to at least 1876. The first gun target in town was a small blacksmith shop located on the corner of First and Main Streets. A man named John Fenton erected the target in 1876. In 1903, Holladay's first post office was opened. In 1907, Holladay's first grocery store opened. In 1916, the Holladay High School was built and in 1927, Holladay's first library opened. The town experienced some growth during World War II when many civilians served in the military or were drafted into service. After the war ended, there were more civilian businesses and residents began to return to their homes.
Holladay is a small town in Utah, located on the Wasatch Front. The population was 707 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Provo–Orem, UT Metropolitan Statistical Area. Holladay is named after Brigham Young and his people journeyed through this area in search of new land to settle and build their homes on. The first settlers arrived in 1847 and built a log cabin near present-day Holladay. A post office was established here in 1848, and by 1860 there were 11 residents living here. A school was also established in 1848, but it closed in 1861 because of lack of students. In 1865, John Dormon came to Holladay with his family and started a grocery store. This became the nucleus around which community life developed until 1930 when electricity began to arrive hereabouts. In that year, the first home on Post Road was built; by 1930 there were 192 dwellings herein. A fire destroyed most of Holladay's buildings during an evening thunderstorm on November 9, 1933; however, all resident had time to leave before they could be consumed by flames or swept away by windy conditions that night. By 1904, Cedar City had become one of Utah's largest cities with over 100,000 residents. The city experienced rapid growth in both population and economy due to its railroad connection to Salt Lake City as well as its status as an important religious center for Mormons. In recent decades, Cedar City has seen a resurgence in its cultural landscape with popular tourist destinations such as McCaskey Park being established within the city limits.
