The town was named for Brigham Young and his brother David Holladay. The first settler in what is now Holladay was Hyrum Smeaton who arrived in 1847. He built a log cabin on the east side of present day Farmington Avenue. A post office called Holladay was founded in 1853, and remained in operation until 1903. In 1907, Harry Fenton began to homestead land near the intersection of Farmington Avenue and Weber Road. By 1912, he had developed a small farming community which included twenty-seven homes and one store. In 1912, Hyrum Smeaton's daughter Anna married George Wickersham who had come to America from England with his parents just two years earlier as part of the Mormon Missionary Society wagon train headed for Salt Lake City. They moved to Holladay where George ran a general store for several years before moving back to Utah Territory in 1916 when he became head judge of Carbon County Agricultural District No 2 Anna Wickersham died in childbirth while their son George lived only six months after being born due to complications from smallpox vaccination which also caused him great pain throughout his life After her death, he married Lillie Atherton who survived him by over seventy years George Wickersham passed away suddenly on November 6th 1922 aged sixty-six years leaving four children: three daughters: Mildred (Mildred), Bertha (Bertha) and May ("Peggy") Wickersham; one son: George N., Jr.(1924-2007)

Holladay was a small town in Utah, United States from the early 1800s until it left the state in 1907. Holladay is now home to a population of about 2,500 people. The town was founded by Latter-day Saint pioneers in 1858 as part of what would become known as the Great Basin Company of Utah Territory. The company hired local men to build canals connecting eastern Utah with the great salt lake. In 1862, Brigham Young named Holladay after himself and his family members John C. Smith (alias Mormon prophet) and Emma Hale Smith (née Morley). He also donated land for a church complex that today stands on Main Street near the intersection of First Avenue and State Street. The original settlers were largely men from Logan County, Kentucky who had come overland through Kearny Mesa Pass on their way east to join Brigham Young's army during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The first school opened in 1865; by 1870 there were nine schools operating throughout southern Utah Territory including Holladay; two years later thereported an increase in enrollment from 9 students per teacher to 25 students per teacher thanks to improvements made at both schools—one being located across State Street from the other which doubled as an gymnasium/library/theater combo called "The Star". By 1877 therewere twenty three schools open statewide with an available student body of nearly 100,000 During World War I (1914-1918), much effort went into building military barracks for troops stationed along the Great Salt Lake which became known collectively as "Salt Lick." In 1917–1920 several mills closed due to lack of customers or competition from other industries within Utah; however, these closures did not dampen business activity at combined mills owned by Deseret News parent Hearst Corporation which reopened those mills under new management starting February 1924 During World War II (1939-1945), many munitions manufacturing plants were constructed along Interstate 80 between Cedar City and Provo Canyon; these plants produced bombsight receivers used aboard submarines tasked with detonating torpedoes before they could hit their targets In 1951 Holladay voters passed a resolution designating Saturday morning January 26th as a day off for all citizens regardless of occupation or job status
Holladay was founded in 1847 by George Holladay, who came from a family of farmers. The Holladays were the first white people to settle in what is now Holladay County. In 1849, they built the first store in what is now Holladay and started trading with Indians. They also developed a sheep ranch and became known for their fine wool products. In 1863, the Hollidays moved to Grants Pass, Oregon and began producing wheat flour there. In 1865, they opened a branch store in Salt Lake City and continued distributing their wheat flour there until 1888 when they stopped production and closed their doors. The town of Holladay was established around 1900 when developers decided to build an agricultural center on the site of the old mill buildings which had been destroyed by fire years earlier. The town quickly grew into a thriving community with its own school, courthouse, post office and bank. By 1915, it had acquired its own hospital which remain open today as Utah Valley Hospital.
