Highland, Utah is a small town located in the UT Valley area and was founded by Mormons in the early 1800s. The town has had many different names over the years, but its most common name today is Highland. It was first called Fillmore after General James Fillmore, who helped start the Mormon colony in 1847 and then served as governor of Utah from 1853-1857. In 1850, Highland was renamed for John C. Highland, a member of the Utah Territorial Legislature who served from December 8th, 1850 to March 4th, 1851. The name change came about because of how much people knew about John C. Highlanders military career which spanned many years including service with Company K at Fort Bridger during the Mexican-American War and his time as captain of Company G (Utah Volunteers) at Cedar City during the Black Hawk War. The town continued to be called Highland until it changed its name again to Park City in 1907 due to concerns that another city might take away land used by the LDS church for Sabbath rest services. Park City remained an official name until it changed back to Highlands on July 1st, 1951 following a vote by the Park City Council to honor former Mayor Elisha Sizer and his family for their support of local businesses and community initiatives over 25 years ago. Today, Highland is home to a variety of businesses including several banks, multiple types of restaurants and bars/cafés along with two high school districts – Park City Unified School District #2 and Payson Unified School District #1 – which offer students various opportunities such as athletics teams that compete in state tournaments or park DISTRICT championships club sports programs that participate in interscholastic play against other towns or villages within our boundaries).
