Highland, Utah is a city in Kearney County, Utah, United States. The population was 5,912 at the 2010 census. Highland is located on the Wasatch Front and lies northeast of Salt Lake City. The town was laid out in 1868 by George W. Richards and named after Mount Olympus in Greece. Highland's first post office was opened in 1870. It became a city on July 1, 1959. The population grew rapidly during the 1960s and 1970s due to population growth in nearby Salt Lake City and Deseret Village east of Highlandtown proper; these developments led to increased traffic congestion on Highway 12A which bisects the city limits along its eastern border. In recent years development has slowed as new housing has been built in areas north of Highlandtown including Draper, South Jordan, Cottonwood Heights and Pleasant Grove; these developments have helped reduce traffic congestion around downtown but also increasing prices for goods and services within the city limits

In fact, some believe that if you were to excavate any gold from these hills you would have faced prosecution from valley officials! Valley City began to grow rapidly around Highland due to a combination of factors including increased production at nearby mines and new transportation methods like air travel and automobiles. By 1930, Highland had become one of the largest towns on the Wasatch Front with over 1,000 residents! It wasn’t long before businesses started opening up in town which allowed for more socialization between residents and helped contribute to its slow but steady growth over time
