In 1907, residents of neighboring Park City petitioned for annexation into Highland so that their community could have easier access to education and job opportunities outside of their own village. The annexation was approved by local officials and Park City became part of Highlands limits on November 3, 1907. During World War II many locals joined forces with the US military to fight against Nazi Germany or assist with Operation Overlord as truck drivers or workers; most single men served primarily during World War II but some married women also participated in combat roles as nurses or ambulance attendants (the highest ranking female combatant role during World War II was nurse corps member). After hostilities ended following Victory over Japan Day on September 2 1945 many servicemen returned home while others took up permanent residency status within their newly liberated countries such as Korea (US Provost Marshal General George C Marshall later authored an article entitled "The Highlanders – American Veterans Returning Home") On July 15 1954 local leaders proclaimed what would become known as Christmas day when all businesses stopped operations except for one grocery store which continued serving candy canes until January 2 1955 after finally moving out because efforts were made by city fathers not just to integrate Highland intoPark but also Elyria which bordered parkcity On December 6th 1950 Olympics started . Highland, Utah is a small town in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,946 at the 2010 census. Highland is located on the banks of the Cache River. It was founded in 1869 by pioneers from eastern Scotland and Ireland who were seeking to find new land to farm and live on after their escape from British rule during the American Revolution. The first post office in Highland was established in 1870. The name of the town derived from a high ground near its site which overlooks Cache Valley and its riverbanks. In 1872, a school was built and named for Mrs. John Ritchie, wife of one of the early settlers in Highland. In 1895, an LDS church was organized here and began operations as a mission station with twelve members living here at that time; however, it closed in 1913 due to financial reasons. A new LDS church was organized here in 1980; however, it closed again in 1984 due to financial problems. Today there are only two churches remaining: the First Presbyterian Church (founded 1886) and The Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1888).
The Highland community was founded in 1879 by a group of Mormon pioneers. The community experienced growth during the early 1800s, and by 1860 there were 1,500 residents. In 1917, the Highland School District was formed and Highland became one of its initial districts. The population of Highland peaked at 2,000 in the late 1940s but has declined since then.
