Herriman, Utah is a town in Duchesne County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The town was founded by George Herriman in 1876. He named it for his father-in-law John Herriman who had come to America from Ireland two years earlier. The first store in town was opened by J. C. Judd and Elisha Blanchard in 1877. By 1880, there were ten stores and eighty-four residents in the town of about . In 1895, the railroad reached Herriman; then it grew rapidly due to its strategic location on the narrow gauge line connecting Ogden with Provo and other cities. A post office was established at Herriman on December 17, 1896; Henry Haring became its first Postmaster General. During World War II, most of the steel production within range of Duchesne County took place at nearby Cedar Rapids and later Wabasha Power Plant; however, much of what went into making that war effort came from outside the county as well (eighty percent of all munitions used or produced in Duchesne County during World War II were exported). Steel production peaked around 1945 but began to decline starting in the early 1950s as a result of technological improvements and advancements made in other manufacturing industries such as aluminum and plastics

Prior to the development of handguns, most artillerymen used a number of different devices placed around or inside their cannons to hold targets in place for shooting. One such device was a targeter, which consisted of a piece of wood or metal designed to slowly move up and down on anvil-like surface so that the shooter could keep track of where their target was located. The targeter became increasingly cumbersome with each passing year, and it wasn't until 1851 that an improved design was created called the Grinling–Hanson Targeter. This new targeter utilized a series of weights that were attached directly to either one or more screw posts at various intervals along its length, allowing the targeter to be easily moved from one position to another without being affected by recoil. Though this new targeter proved successful, it wasn't until 1864 that further refinements were made which would eventually become known as target holders. These revisions involved adding funds into each post in order to make it easier for shooters (or anyone else who might be using them) to control how quickly and accurately they fired their projectiles. Additionally, these holders were now also designed so that they could be rotated 360 degrees in order to allow for perfect aiming at any angle imaginable. Though not commercially successful, these changes eventually led to the widespread adoption of Target Holder technology throughout artillery and other muzzle loading firearms across Europe and North America during the 19th century. In 1916, a dam was built which would later become known as Lake Powell National Park. At that time, it was one of the few natural resources available for development within Weber County and helped spur growth within the town itself. After World War II ended, the community became increasingly commercialized as agricultural production peaked and new industries began coming online such as aluminum smelting plants and cattle ranches. However, despite this growth storybook ending with a major tragedy for both townsites – another dam failure led to widespread flooding which destroyed most of their homes – both continue to thrive today thanks to diverse businesses present along with strong local families that are still involved in their communities
