The first settlers in Herriman were David and Rebecca Hammond in 1867. They homesteaded on the east side of the Uintah River adjacent to what is now Herriman Elementary School. David Hammond's brother-in-law, Brigham Young himself, donated land for a school in 1869. The first building was a log cabin used by teachers from Provo before it moved to its current site in 1870. In 1912, East High School became West High School when they merged with South Side High School which had been founded earlier that year by students from North Side High School. In 1915, the school district constructed what is now Jordan Park Stadium which served as home field for both West and East Schools until it was replaced by Jordan Park Campus in 1966. According to the 2010 census, there are 792 people living in Herriman Parish including 633 households and 174 families

It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield metropolitan area and borders Weber County on the east and north. The first permanent settler in Herriman was George Cushing who came from New York in 1847. He built a cabin on the Big Rock River near what is now Herriman. He named his new settlement after John Herriman, an early settler in Carbon County. In 1881, Mormon pioneer Brigham Young founded the Salt Lake Valley settlements at Provo and Wanship which included Herriman. In 1892 Alfred Vail opened a sawmill at nearby Cedar City which began to produce lumber for homes and businesses in neighboring Weber Counties. In 1955, following enactment of the Federal Housing Administration's (FHA) Rural Development Act of that year, Congress passed a law entitled "The Community Reinvestment Act of 1965" which authorized FHA to provide financial assistance to local governments forthe purpose of promoting community development within their jurisdiction through lending or other forms of assistance including purchase or construction of housing units and associated infrastructure such as schools or churches
