Herriman is a town located in Wasatch County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The town is named after George Herriman, an early settler. The first Europeans to visit the area were Juan Rodriguez de Nunez and his brother Alonso de Nunez in 1540. In 1847, Brigham Young founded the Mormon Battalion and traveled through Herriman to scout out potential sites for a settlement. In 1850, Brigham Young's army passed through Herriman on their way to attack the Mexican settlers near Salt Lake City. Aftermath of this battle resulted in many loyalties among Mormons and people from nearby townships being put together to form Herriman Settlement Company which later became known as the HERRIMAN FOUNDATION. In 1857-58, another group of Mormons under Lorenzo Snow surveyed what would become Herriman Valley and selected a site for the townsite on Cedar Mesa northeast of present day Herriman on April 12th of that year. It was here that George Atherton erected his log cabin which served as the nucleus for what would become today's Town Hall building and numerous other buildings within her current limits including: Post Office/First Methodist Church (1873), First Baptist Church (1877), Lutheran Chapel (1912), Masonic Lodge No 2 (1914), Park Schoolhouse(1927) and Lone Star Drug Store(1963). The Territorial Legislature designated Draper County as part of Wasatch County on February 14th 1861 so that all square miles within Wasatch Co., Utah could be divided equally between two counties with no right of purchase or ownership by any party or individual excepting those who had bought it outright before February 14th when it changed hands among various parties involved in its creation according to territorial laws then still inoperative; plus any unsold parcels remaining afterFebruary 14th were placed into Lane County where they still remain today as part of Draper Township while all other properties within HERRIMAN VALLEY proper have been fully developed pursuant to Ordinance No 2 dated November 5th 1915 entitled "An ordinance concerning Development." HERRIMAN VALLEY proper was platted by order of Mayor Wm Atherton pursuant to said ordinance number 2 on December 8th 1915 during which time all property therein including lots included hereinto subject thereto had been purchased by him personally at public sale following platting thereof….Herrington Township was organized January 1st 1916 consisting thereof parts eastward along South street constitute section 3 Rector & Section 4 Businessman……..The total area now embraced within HERRIMAN VALLEY proper has thus far amounting To Over One Hundred And Thirty Miles square footage….All events leading up until its incorporation into Draper County took place without Incident whatsoever save for one appearance before Judge J.H McGillicuddy Esq., At whose request said organization was made but he did not sign nor ratify same…..This territory now comprising PART OF DUNCAN COUNTY AND ALLOWED TO BE INCLUDED IN THAT COUNTY BY THE LEGISLATUREBACK THEN CONTAINING THIS DISCUSSION WAS PURCHASED FROM ORDINANCE NO 2 DATED NOVEMBER 5TH 1915 BY MOSES HUGHES PRESIDENT OF THE CITY OF LAS VEGAS WHO ALSO OWNED AN ESTATE IN DESERT HOT SPRINGS NEAR DUARTE WHERE HE PLANNED TO MAKE HIS HOME

Herriman, Utah is a small town in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Ogden-Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first resident to permanently settle in Herriman was A.J. Sheppard on February 14, 1875. He and his family had come from Illinois and were farmers. soon after they started farming there grew some trees for lumber which generated much revenue for the settlers In 1902 $10,000 was raised by a public subscription to construct a water tower which became known as "The Herriman Water Tower". In 1912 a schoolhouse also became known as "The Herriman School House". In 1916 an electric light system was installed in herriman by the Southern Electric Company providing electricity for local businesses and homes until it went out of business in 1933 In 1932 Wm Gorman opened the first grocery store in Ogden with three stores located along Main Street including one that still stands today called Gorman's Drug Store which served as an anchor around which other businesses built over time such as: The Masonic Temple (now used by LDS Church services), First National Bank (now Wells Fargo bank), Mrs.'s Pizza Place (later closed down) and many others . At about this time sherimans name changed from Harker to Herriman due to lack of suitable land available for settlement and during World War II most families decided against moving since there wasn't any need for it since they could provide their own food . However some did move few years later when more land became available downtown business gradually dwindled until closing down completely in the late 1990s; however remnants can still be seen today such as: The Depot Restaurant - now open at 605 W Main Street operated by young couple Joni & Shane Ryan who purchased it back in 2001 from previous owners who closed it down due to financial difficulties ); Classen's Hardware - now home of Super 8 Motel ); Amish Quilt Shop - now home of JJ Bites pizzeria ); Chinese restaurant - now Hansen's Grille ; former KFC restaurant - currently used as apartments ; Heritage building housing apartments/apartments has been vacant since early 2006 but may be reactivated if needed
Herriman was founded in 1847 by John Herriman, a Mormon pioneer and Utah territorial governor. The town was named after his father, who had also been a pioneer in the area. It developed as a small farming community until it became an important coal mining center in the early 20th century.
