A local resident named Willis Hargrave donated some of these trees for Arbor Day celebration in 1976. The townsite also contains a number of homes from early pioneers such as Nathaniel Merrill who lived on South Main Street between Park Avenue and Second Street until he sold his property southeast of town to Forney Caffrey in 1865; James Merrill who lived on North Main Street east of Park Avenue from 1868-71; John Laughlin who resided on East Fourth Street east of Park Avenue from 1870-72; Hiram Lambdin who lived at 432 N Lamar Road northeast of town beginning about 1875; Joseph Knighton who owned 640 N Lamar Road near present day Midvale before moving westward into Kane County about 1880; Asahel Rice who bought 160 acres northwest of town beginning about 1886; Ezra Taft Benson located just southwest corner mile marker 231st north latitude line east longitude lines extending southwest onto lot number 261st west longitude line within lot number 262nd west longitude line lying northwest corner mile marker 232nd north latitude line east longitude lines extended northeast onto lots numbered 263rd through 269th west longitude lines extending southwest onto lot number 270th west longitude line within lot #271st westlongitude lines extend southeast into adjacent lot #272nd north latitude line east longitudes .
