In 1912, the town became an officially incorporated place when residents voted to change its name to Herriman after president Woodrow Wilson's visit that year. Thepost office continued to serve as Draperstown until 1993 when it moved to Midvale and is now closed there. The commune of Zion was organized in 1932 near Herriman; membership peaked at 135 in 1984 but declined to about 50 by 2006 due largely to the impact of relocating National Guard troops garrisoning the commune during the 1982 Winter Olympics which took place just north of Herriman and outside of any municipal jurisdiction. A referendum on whether or not to continue operations failed by a wide margin on November 24th, 2006 with over 60% Nay votes cast while only 2% Yes votes were recorded
