The term "high" likely refers to nearby mountains which form a natural barrier between Utah and Colorado ranching regions. In 1851, George Herriman erected his farmstead atop what would become known as Rimah Hillock Summit. From here he dedicated himself to growing crops and raising livestock while also serving as mayor and justice of peace for his community. His dedication to his community was recognized when he was given honorary citizenship by Utah in 1922. Today, Herriman preserves much of its pioneer-era infrastructure such as roads and buildings dating back to 1850-1852 including Mayor's Hall which serves as both a museum and public meeting space today.
