The post office at Heber was established on July 9, 1852. In 1862 the United States Government paid $1,000 for the purchase of 640 acres from Solomon Holdaway for $8 per acre. This land became known as "Richards Mill". Heber's incorporation as a city took place on November 15, 1912. On December 4 of that year the City Council voted to rename it "Heber City" after President Woodrow Wilson who had made it an express invitation to come inspect their city when he visited Carbon County during his trip through Central Utah in 1913. On June 6th of this year Mayor Richard Cogliano presented Mayor Neil Aiken with a plaque which reads "In memory of Neil Aiken who dedicated his life to public service and brought much needed change to Heber City." Today many residents still call themselves Hebers or simply visit their home town on occasion for groceries or just some time out of the year

Heber, Utah is a Mormon town located in Wasatch County, Utah. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. Heber is named after Heber C. Kimball, one of the Latter-day Saints who served as an apostle and president of the church from 1908 to 1912. The first inhabitants of Heber were Native Americans who hunted and gathered food near the site where the town now stands. In 1871, Brigham Young sent a group of Mormons to build a community on this location known as Caldwell Station. The town was named for Heber C. Kimball, one of the apostles and prophets who helped lead the LDS Church through its early years. In 1882, Heber became part of Salt Lake City when it was designated as the new capital of Utah Territory. This meant that residents could begin enjoying some basic rights and services that had been unavailable to them in Nauvoo or Provo—such as public education and welfare programs. Theaters were built in Heber to host performances by local choirs and bandshells were opened for use by locals and visitors alike. Heber continued to grow during these years; by 1907, it had reached its present size with a population of 10,000 people! By 1916, however, World War I began and enrollment in BYU (the University of Utah) plummeted; despite efforts by local officials to keep students enrolled elsewhere, many arrived at BYU unable or unwilling to continue their studies due to wartime obligations. With only 2 percent remaining after hostilities ended in 1918—a number that has never recovered—Heber slowly but surely lost its status as a vibrant center for culture and commerce within Mormonism during those days! However, things have changed since then: Thanks in part to advances in technology (including satellite imagery which can now be used for real-time mapping), Heberean businesses are now starting up all over again thanks both to online marketing opportunities offered through social media platforms like Facebook/Twitter/Google+, plus wink-wink deals from larger brands looking for localized flavors (think Subway). And even though physical stores still abound hereabouts (think HEB's newest Fresh Market concept), most Hebereans prefer online purchase options whenever possible given how convenient they are!
