In 1847, Brigham Young founded The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints here and soon thereafter moved the community to its current location on the west side of Provo Canyon on March 12, 1849—just two months after he became president of LDS Church. Today, Heber remains one of LDS Church's most populous locations with more than 10 percent growth every year since 2007 from its total population to over 4,000 residents in 2010; it ranks first among LDS towns or villages worldwide in terms both church membership growth rates and births/death rates. Today’s Heber is built largely upon agriculture with some Manufacturing taking place locally as well such as fabrication for buildings like churches and hospitals etc., but services are also growing rapidly including electronic goods retailing company Jabiru which opened up shop here last year and plans to open 5 more stores across Utah this year alone!

The town site was laid out by J.H.S., from Independence, Missouri on July 12th, 1847 according to Platte River Indian Treaty #27 The LDS Church organized its first ward here on November 14th, 1869 as a branch of Hyde Park Ward in Salt Lake City. In 1919 Heber's first bishopric was established with Nelsons as firstbishop and others later filling other positions including Cyril Warton (1929-1966), Franklin Richards (1976-1988), Oswald L apostle emeritus Michael Quinn (1996-2002) and Gordon B Hinckley (2008-present).
