Farmington is located on the banks of the Cache River and its ZIP code is 84712. The first settler in Farmington was James Fenton in 1838. He purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) of land from David Cranch and John Dowsett for $1,500 cash. In 1851, Brigham Young organized The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) in Farmington and started a mission there to proselytize among Native Americans . On October 15, 1852, Joseph Smith founded the LDS Church at Nauvoo under direction from First Presidency President Brigham Young Jr.. The first ordinance was performed there on November 12th by Smith himself with assistance from Sidney Rigdon and Willard Richards . In 1865–66 Mormon pioneers arrived at what would become Salt Lake City; they erected their first church building on Main Street in Farmington just south of present day South Temple Street. On January 24th 1870 Elder Orson Scott Card officiated as pioneer bishop over a congregation that numbered 113 people after wintering near Cottonwood Creek outside town limits for some six weeks while seeking an easier way into town to register with local authorities . After ordination as a high priest he again journeyed out into "the wilderness" to perform ordinances which were not possible within Nauvoo due to legal restrictions placed upon them by then-President Joseph Fielding Smith including but not limited to prohibitions against polygamy After several years additional construction took place with Ursula Maud Howe presiding over it all as President pro tempore beginning September 1921 until her death on February 16th 1922 having served for five years exceeding two terms overall She also built or helped build many other LDS churches across America during her time including those now located throughout Utah such as Springdale and Provo

Farmington, Utah was founded in 1847 by pioneers John and Emma Craig. The town was named after Farmington, New Mexico, where the Craig family had settled prior to their arrival in Utah. The first permanent settler in Farmington was Isaac Union, who arrived in 1849. Union operated a sawmill and store in the town for several years before moving to Pleasant Grove. In 1861, Union sold his land to James Waddell andhis brother-in-law Ebenezer Higgins for $2,500. Waddell built the first schoolhouse in Farmington and began teaching school there in 1865. By 1870, the population of Farmington had grown to around 150 people. That same year, Waddell donated land to build an LDS church on the site of present day Priesthood Avenue and Second Street. The first church building was built on this property in 1871. In 1893, agriculturalist George Clements erected a large farm complex on parcels of land that he had purchased from Waddell just north of town. This included a barn, stable, corn cribs or threshing machines, feed mill and other assorted farm equipment. The Clements home still stands today on Third Street within sight of the LDS Church campus. During World War II (1939-1945), Farmington became an important military installation due to its proximity to Salt Lake City and its ability to provide labor for various projects throughout downtown Salt Lake City as well as remote sites such as Fort Douglas Air Force Base and Weber Air Force Base near Ogden Valley Airport
Farmington was founded in 1830 by Jacob Horne. The town grew rapidly due to the discovery of gold in nearby Ogden and other areas. In 1851, Farmington became the capital of Utah. The city's growth continued until 1959, when it merged with Provo to form Provo-Ogden.
