Farmington, Utah is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 5,521 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Weber County and home to the University of Northern Iowa. Farmington was named after General James H. Farmington and his men who fought in the Mexican-American War at San Jacinto Heights. The first permanent settler in what would become Farmington was George Clements who arrived on July 12, 1847 from Illinois.[1] He erected a cabin on what is now South First Street. On November 8, 1850, he married Martha Atherton and moved into his cabin with her to commence building their own home,[2] which they did by clearing land and planting crops that produced maize (cottonseed) and Indian corn (maize). They also raised pigs, chickens and ducks for their eggs which they sold to local farmers. In 1853 when Brigham Young rode into town on horseback for dinner it came as an surprise to locals because he had just founded Salt Lake City - one day before they had![3] George Clements played an important role in helping build that new city; both he and his wife are credited with helping lay out Cow Creek Boulevard today's main drag within town limits while Martha cooked up all the dishes! In 1863 when Salt Lake City became Territorial Territory of Utah due to The admission of California into the Union as part of that territory,[4][5][6][7] George Clements donated land south of Main Street in what is now downtown Farmington to establish "a National Agricultural School".[8] That school held its first classes on September 15th 1865 under guidance of Professor John Witherspoon at present day UI-Hawaii Campus (formerly known as Southern Utah University).[9][10][11] The first professor at NAFS was Samuel Morse who taught Botany until 1870 when he became professor emeritus[12],[13]. Afternoon classes were offered intermittently through 1893 during drought years but eventually stopped altogether due to lack funding; however daytime sessions continued until 1904 when evening session began because there was no longer enough space for classrooms inside the Old State Capitol Building Precinct 2.[14],[15], later renamed UI-Hawaii Campus permanently following annexation by Hawaii. During World War II many talented students served in various branches including Army Air Forces Flying Service Academy where Jens Weidner earned a commission as a Second Lieutenant.;[16] Navy Aviation Cadet Squadron No 1(Naval Aviator Training Unit) located near Camp Blanding where future Congressman Ron Paul was born; Naval Intelligence Officer Corps at Henderson Field Naval Air Station Ladd AFB; Naval gunfire team shooters program at Fort Huachuca during WWII having two members killed whilst participating Today's economy has been built largely upon agriculture with some manufacturing scattered throughout central Weber County based companies such as Stoneware Corporation,[17], Farmers Market Company,[18]; GrainCorp., United Steelworkers Local 1098,[19]; Cedar Rapids Tool & Die Corporation ; Rubbermaid Incorporated ; American Weighing Machine Corporation . While there are still some small businesses operating like Dole Food CoOp., Fishers Hardware store etc., much of the economic activity currently takes place outside those primary sectors

Farmington, Utah is a town in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. The name "Farmington" comes from the Oglala Sioux word for "water spring." The first permanent settler in Farmington was George Custer in 1879. The town was founded on October 7, 1881 by Hyrum M. Smith and his family as a result of the donation of 10 acres (4 ha) of land from John D. Rockefeller to establish a settlement called Farmington Wells near present-day Aspen Grove Township. It took until 1893 for the town to gain its current name, which it received from James Wickersham after he donated $1,000 to help finance development in Farmington Wells. On December 4, 1890, the first school building and library were dedicated in Farmington Wells by President Benjamin Harrison with then-Governor Samuel Dole following suit on December 12th of that year. On January 1st 1901 local mayor John Sorenson dedicated another school building located within what is now Aspen Grove Township when it became part of Farmington through an act of Congress approved on February 2nd of that year. In 1907 new streets were laid out including Main Street and Second Street which run parallel to each other along both banks of the Jordan River just north of downtown farmINGTON where they intersect today forming one long street grid layout designed by engineer Jens Jensen who also designed Salt Lake City's Central Business Districts during this time period In 1916 two blocks east off Main Street (now Third Avenue) was erected into what are now known as Farmer’s Market Square and this location remained central to most aspects of daily life for many years until demolition occurred in 2001 resulting in total obliteration or almost total destruction (-$30K worth of artifacts lost)of over 350 years old evidence associated with early agricultural production within walking distance or easy access for all residents including children playing outside In 1925 mainstreetwidenedto2feetwideninginfrontofhomesoneastsideofthesaltlakecitycentralbusinessdistrict
Farmington was founded in 1847 by Jedediah Smith, a Mormon pioneers. The town was named after the farm on which it was established. Farmington became an agricultural center and grew to be a major city in the Utah Territory. In 1912, Farmington merged with Provo to form the larger city of Provo.
