Eagle Mountain is a ski resort located in Utah. The resort has an 8,000 acre (3,600 hectare) property and offers skiing for all levels of experience. Eagle Mountain was built in the early 1920s as a small ski factory on the slopes of Mount Carmel. It became one of the most popular ski resorts in the United States byLate 1950s when it was renamed Eagle Mountain Ski Resort after its peak altitude of 9,610 feet (2,500 meters). In 1984 it was re-ignited as a full-time ski resort with lift service and today provides skiing for all levels with over 1 million visitors per year. The first lifts were installed at Eagle Mountain Ski Resort in 1922 and operated by three men: pioneer George Aitken, his son John Aitken, Sr., and their friends Frank Gottschalk and Harry Blackledge. The first lift system opened on April 6, 1924. By 1932 there were ten lifts including two high speed lifts which allowed skiers to descend quickly from the top of the mountain to lower trails below. Park Superintendent Donald MacDonald supervised these operations while working at nearby Utah State Fairgrounds where he also sold tickets for the annual fairground races which took place every fall on Summit Street near present day Nordstrom Place Shopping Center east of campus. In 1948 President Truman gave sanction to plans for a new ski resort on what is now known as North Peak Boulevard within sight of downtown Salt Lake City;this project was led by Arthur Ewing who had been assistant superintendent at USF during World War II before moving up through USF’s School Of Architecture To be its director in 1947 when it merged with UST To become Brigham Young University – Utah Campus (BYU-UT). Construction began in 1951 under direction of Assistant Superintendent Lewis Hutton who designed both upper lodge structures and chairlifts that would eventually reach an elevation above 12,700 feet (4,100 meters) making Eagle Mountain one of America’s highest resorts next to Aspen Colorado’s Aspen Highlands Resort which hadopened six years earlier! With Lodge #1 open in February 1957 followed by Lodge #2 on July 2nd 1959 both featuring six chairlifts each reaching an altitude greater than 11 miles (18 kilometers) above sea level! Lift service commenced daily Monday thru Friday from May 4th until late October 1956 with South Peak being operating only during certain months due to weather conditions; this last operation started November 5th 1946 concurrent with opening ceremonies for newly renovated Main Lodge/Lodgepole Skibowl area located just east side main drag south side street between Temple Square & First Ward blocks south side block north side street between First Ward blocks & temple square On November 3rd 1956 additionallift capacity w/South Peak becoming operational allowing Banff National Park “Winter Wonderland” season opener etc.) This addedlift capability made possible visits by Presidents Eisenhower & Kennedy coming downcountry December 17 th 1960 prior to their G20 Summit Address at Mtn View Hotel especially comments about beautiful snowfields around Provo Valley .On March 15 th 1961 increased lift capacity again starting Saturday Apr 1st 1961 thru Sunday Mar 31st 1961 resulting from repairs needed along East Ridge corridor connecting North Peak Blvd./South Peak Blvd./Mount Carmel Rd./Pt Carmel Rd./Cache National Forest boundary

The peak first been sighted by Spanish missionaries in 1823 and was called San Cristobal de las Casas Peaks. The mountain was first surveyed by Captain John Dallimore of the United States Exploring Expedition in 1829, who named it for General James Ewing's military regiment known as the "Eagles". In 1863, Mormon pioneers discovered coal mining on the mountain and began developing the area around Eagle Mountain into a mining town. Although Eagle Mountain never became a major coal mine, it remains an important source of revenue to Emery County. Today, Eagle Mountain offers a variety of activities such as hiking, skiing, golfing, fishing, wildlife viewing and bird watching.
