Cottonwood Heights, Utah is a census-designated place located in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 2,848 at the 2010 census. Cottonwood Heights is part of the Provo–Orem metropolitan area. It is bordered by Cache Valley to the east, Springdale to the south and west, and Spanish Fork to the north. Cottonwood Heights was developed as a cattle market town during the early 20th century. The town name comes from nearby Cottonwoods National Forest which covers most of its eastern border. In 1869 Mormon pioneers arrived in present-day Kane County and selected what would become Cottonwood Heights as their new home. In 1870 Brigham Young appointed John C. Fremont as first sheriff of Kane County and named Cottonwood Heights after General James Kapp's ranch near present day Springdale where he had been living since 1847. When Kapp died in 1872 his land passed into Mexican hands so it wasn't until 1888 when it was given back to Brigham Young's son Orson Snow who laid out cotton fields for pioneer families in what is now Cottonwood Heights. A post office called "Cottonwood" was established at this location on July 5, 1889; however, due to swine fever it remained open only one week before being closed due to lack of mail delivery service from Springdale.. The first school in present-day Cottonwood Heights opened its doors on September 12, 1893 under teacher Jno Hanksburgs name after traveling downriver with him on an LDS mission trip sponsored by president George Q.—Mormons believed that education would bring happiness hereafter. Over time more schools were built throughout the community including a Sanitarium for tuberculosis patients opened in 1919 which became known as "The White House" afterwards; today it houses various businesses within walking distance including Crossroads Market & Restaurant which has been owned and operated by family members since 1978; Pioneer Village Museum (now Hansen Place) which chronicles life during pioneer times starting with Indian Removal and ending with parades through downtown Provo every Fourth of July; also within walking distance are two churches: First Baptist Church (founded 1912) which services mainly independent African American residents along with a grocery store/bakery/delivery service that serves primarily Latino residents ; Second Baptist Church (founded 1947) which services both independent African American residents along with some shopping opportunities.; Lastly there is Blake Elementary School serving grades PK through 3rd grade along with additional classrooms used for community events such as band concerts or dance recitals etc., all situated just across busy North Temple Street from Chavez Middle School on South Temple Street - making this one of largest elementary schoolsserving students from pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade in Kane County! A major development taking place within walking distance of Chavez Middle School over the past few years has been University Village - an apartment complex erected adjacent to Baylor University's main campus providing apartments for student dormitory users as well as several commercial tenants like Subway sandwich shops and small restaurants . This project began back in 2002 when UTEP professor emeritus Harry Benson started developing what would eventually be known as University Village - an apartment complex designed specifically for students working towards their degrees at Baylor University . He purchased approximately 350 acres bordering UTEP property directly north of Baylor University campus - creating what today is known among locals simply as "UTEP Campus". With construction continuing apace ever since then university students have consistently made good use of these unique surroundings !
