Mr. Fields continued to live there until his death on October 2nd, 1904 at the age of eighty-six years five months. Mrs. Smith continued to live there until her death on December 5th, 1984 at the age of ninety-one years one month old also known as “Mama” or “Papa” to her children and grandchildren still living there today
The Cottonwood Heights area of Utah was founded by the Mormon pioneers in 1847. The area was named for the cottonwoods that grew near the settlement. The land was first surveyed and purchased from the Mexican government in 1848. In 1850, a group of Mormon settlers began to build a cabin on what is now Cottonwood Heights. By 1860, there were about seventy-five families living in the area. The population continued to grow and by 1870, there were over one hundred residents living in Cottonwood Heights. Over time, some of the original founders who lived in Cottonwood Heights passed away, but their memory remains with the community today.
