Clinton, Utah is a small town in the Bear River Valley of north-central Utah. The population was 1,083 at the 2000 census. It is located on U.S. Route 11 and has a stop on the Union Pacific Railroad. The first scopes were built in Clinton by Leland Stanford, grandson of John D. Rockefeller, Sr., in 1876. The town was named for him and he donated land to make it a town square. In 1912, Clinton became an incorporated city with a mayor and City Council The first American telescope was built here in 1915 by David Levy and his son Julius Levy as part of the University of Chicago Observatories survey project called "Milky Way." A block from where I stand today (in front of Brigham Young University), there once stood an old stone building that served as the observatory until 1951 when the United States Naval Observatory moved into its new facility across town (the now defunct Clinton Starlight Motel). Built in 1905 by local resident Hiram Sibley (brother-in-law to LDS Church founder Joseph Smith) as a private observatory for himself and his wife Alma mater Brigham Young Women's College (now BYU), it had been used primarily for astronomy before becoming part of USNO when it opened its doors to the public in 1951 A Block from where I stand today (in front of Brigham Young University), there once stood an old stone building that served as the observatory until 1951 when the United States Naval Observatory moved into its new facility across town (the now defunct Clinton Starlight Motel).

In 1911, when Franklin D Roosevelt was elected president, he madeClinton his temporary home while he took office in Washington D.C.. Many people thought that he might choose to live in New York City since New York City had been so successful during his earlier political career. But FDR ultimately decided against it and chose instead to stay in Des Moines, Iowa until his inauguration ceremony on January 20th., 2009 which occurred at Denver’s Rocky Mountains National Park….

The first post office in Clinton was established in 1849. In 1865, the town became a part of Great Britain after the American Civil War.
