In 1907, Clinton became part of Cache Valley Municipal District; however, annexed by Logan City upon its incorporation as a city in 1912despite protests by residents who saw their village grow larger than their municipal boundaries . In 1916-17, during World War I ammunition storage dumps were built near present-day Clintontown; these are still extant as part of Cache Valley Parklands Preserve In 1924 President Warren G Harding dedicated Route 66 east from Ogden throughCache Valley; this highway remains one of the most popular tourist attractions within Clintons borders today despite designation as a national scenic Byway following Interstate 15 between Provo and Logan Countys Edgefield area since 1978) As early as 1923 there were efforts to establish a college or university within Clinton; but this never came to fruition due to opposition from locals who saw such an institution as promoting outside control over their community affairs while they continued to operate under ecclesiastical auspices ; however affiliation with Brigham Young University eventually emerged among some descendants of earliest Mormon settlers after he died in 1901 Nonetheless no college or university ever operated within Clintons boundaries until 2001 when Brigham Young University–Hawaii opened up shop (later known as Utah State University) just south of town off US Highway 12 remote access road

The donation farm Campaign also helped spur other settlers into coming to the area—particularly men such as John C Thorp† (a Brigham Young associate) and Daniel Daggett§ (a brother-in-law of Young). By 1860, there were 3 settlements—Clinton, Woodsville and Sandy — clustered around the present day intersection of State Street and I-15* (*This intersection today includes several businesses used by travelers heading eastbound on I-15 from Salem or Provo.) As more pioneers arrived over time*, Trumpet Hill became established as a center for Mormon culture with its own priests, teachers and churches; while nearby Woodsville developed into an agricultural center focusing on crops like cotton, corn and beans; Clinton gradually lost importance due to these centers‡ [*see map at right]. In 1863 when Lincoln was elected president*, many Latter Day Saints came eastward looking for greener pastures† (*See sidebar “The Making Of APresident: The Political Origins Of Romney And Clintons”). Many residents decided to move away from Trumpet Hill because life there didn't seem as good as it once had done* (*see sidebar “Life After Trumpet Hill: Some Residents Settled Elsewhere”). But some residents kept living near where they grew up* (*see sidebar “Looking Back On Some revisit Home sweet home”). So when Grant Wood started making paintings here during his honeymoon† {*see sidebar “Grant Wood & His Neighbors: Life Amongst The Mormons In California 1900} in 1865 he knew he had found his perfect place! However lived changed quickly after Grant Wood left*: soon after he moved out some local men set fire to his house* [*which may have been accidental], burns which continued until 1870 when someone finally got hold of buckets filled with water & built a dam upstream*. This stopped any further fires but left many trees charred* [*see photo below]). The town founders did not get along well with each other so soon after their arrival(* see photo above right*) so they organized their own school district together instead (# see timeline at bottom) .Clinton eventually merged with neighboring towns Woodsville & Sandy in 1907 making them one Municipality under one government but keeping their separate schools
