Clearfield, Utah is a town located in Clearfield County, Utah, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area since it was founded in 1854. At that time it was one of the most isolated towns in Utah. The town grew up around two scopes: one located on Mount Carmel and the other on Clearfield Mesa. The first scopic society in Clearfield formed in 1868 and used an ad from a local milliner to finance its purchase of a telescope. In 1870, George Quesnel donated his estate to clearfield school district for use as a high school ground. By 1889, over 50 schools had converted to using telescopes for instruction and research purposes including 10 public academies and twelve commercial institutions such as Deseret Newsprint Works and American Glass Works). In 1892, John Wesley Powell became headmaster of Clearfield Academy after serving as Superintendent of Schools for Cache Valley School Districts 1-3 (now Provo School District) for six years during which time he purchased three scopes from Jens Christensen who had recently opened his own observatory near Cedar City (the Cedar Point Observatory). He used them at Clearfield Academy until 1916 when he sold them all to David Whitcomb Riley Jr., son of Gail Whitcomb Riley (director general of LDS Church Education Services), making him the first individual to ever own all seven major national telescopes operated by the Latter-day Saint church—the Heliograph Project Telescope I (HPT1), II (HPT2), III (HPT3), IV (HPT4), V(HPT5), VI(HBST6) and VII(HBST7)—at an auction held at Bookman's Hotel in New York City on May 20th, 1916. Riley also built or renovated many other LDS Church buildings throughout Utah including those at Dormer Ranch near Logan UT; Beehive Hill Farm outside Springdale; Richmond Heights east of Sandy UT; Park Meadows east side of Ogden UT; Stake President's Residence north side of Nephi UT; Summit Hills west side of Grantsville UT; Pleasant Grove Farms south side of Richland Canyon UT and many others across the Wasatch Range into Arizona Territory where he served as president Brigham Young University–Hawaii campus trustee from 1959-1964

A Mormon temple was dedicated in 1924 by President Anthon Sully and later served as the LDS Church's Westminster Abbey Temple until it burned down in 2002. On April 9, 1865 Union Pacific Railroad built a track from Promontory Summit Junction near present-day Cottonwood Heights to Clearfield when it became clear that Provo would not be named the terminus for their proposed new line due to lack of support from local officials. The tracks followed what are now Main Street (UPRR) and US Highway 89 eastward through what is today downtown Clearfield before turning northward along state Route 92 (US 89) into town center where they intersected UPRR just south of First Avenue South (now Main Street). At this point most people living east of US 89 were served by UPRR trains going west instead of south which continued until 1971 when all passenger service ended due to low ridership on the route compared to other Valley lines Amtrak has replaced with buses since then causing minimal traffic impact during peak hours While Provo & Park City had been designated as primary centers for agriculture & industry respectively by 1850, prospects for these types of expansions soon faded due largely to lack of transportation links between those areas & Salt Lake City which became increasingly populated & prosperous as a result of railroad construction throughout Logan Canyon corridor during this time period culminating with completion aka "the Great Boom" that followed World War II bringing massive wavesOf employment within 60 miles radius (& immediate suburbs) making Salt Lake City one giant bedroom community overnight! Some may say that there’s still more room for growth if we focus less on developing our physical surroundings but rather work together collaboratively towards common goals?
