The Clearfield, Utah softgun case history begins with the purchase of a Winchester Model 70 in 1952. The gun was used for hunting and target shooting until it was retired in 2006. It has been stored at the Clearfield Rifle and Pistol Club since then. In May of 2016, a group of enthusiasts decided to take on the challenge of restoring the gun to its former glory by cleaning and checking all screws, lining the chamber with blue cotton insulation, and re-firing the action to test how well it functioned. The first settlers arrived in 1847 and named their town Clearfield because of all the snow that had accumulated since nearby Springdale was founded two years earlier. There were many small villages before Clearfield became the largest city in Utah with over 60,000 residents by 1900. In 1907 Clearfield annexed St George which made it a Municipality; however, it reverted to a Village on October 1st 1915 due to lack of voter approval for annexations until then by either local authorities or Commissioners appointed by Salt Lake City Mayor Franklin Darrow who chaired the Municipal Councils during his tenure as Mayor; both men being self-appointed commissioners as part of their mayoral powers In 1957 Brigham Young University opened its new main campus east of downtown Clearfeld on what had been an agricultural field adjacent to what would later become known as BYU Drive; this area now houses numerous university buildings including residential towers dating back to 1959 when Provo began offering undergraduate rented apartments via its Housing Authority program A large redevelopment project occurred between 1978 and 1984 involving much job creation along with high-rise housing developments on South Park Boulevard across from Brigham Young University which included BYU Stadium and West Hall dormitories completed during that time period also known as River Development Phase II which involved demolishing Cedar Street business blocks adjoining LDS Church President Jerald Richards’ home near Interstate 80 north of I-80 & US 14 Alternate
