After Bridgman's death in 1807, his son-in-law Samuel Clemens took over his business and continued to develop these concepts into what we know today as Scope Mounts. In 1881, John Jumper established Jumper Telescopic Products which became one of the leading manufacturers of telescopic sights worldwide. In 1911, Jumper partnered with Iver Johnson & Sons (IJS) to form Johnson & Jumper Company which would become one of the largest telescope retailers in the world. During World War II, Scope Mounts saw use by American forces both during hostilities itself (such as Okinawa) as well as after Japan surrendered (such as Hiroshima). Clearfield is a city in Clearfield County, Utah, United States. The population was 2,993 at the 2010 census. Clearfield is adjacent to Lehi and is named after Captain John A. Clearfield of the Union Pacific Railroad who led a force against Mormon separatists in 1857. The first settlements in Clearfield were made by Mormons on the east side of the White River in what is now Auburn Township. In 1858, Brigham Young ordered the erection of an eight-foot high wooden fence around Nauvoo (then called Illinois), which marked the beginning of what would become a long-standing dispute between Latter-day Saints and non-Mormons over land rights within their own community. On February 14, 1860, while grazing his herd on federal land just outside present day Clearfield, Joseph Smith observed two men riding up on horseback to follow him as he rode into Nauvoo with members of his household. After arriving at Nauvoo and finding that they were not LDS converts but instead Gentiles travelling with military supplies for General James Hales's militia campaign against local Mormons, Smith ordered them driven off site with rocks and arrows. This episode became known as "the ride from Rockville Heights". The town was laid out on July 15, 1865 when John Cordon purchased 1/8 mile (1 km) of width bought along Center Street from pioneer Eliza Kelley for $10 per acre ($2 per square foot). The town was originally named "Saddle Arabia" because it lay near where Saddle River Creek empties into the river. When water restrictions forced clear cutting along Center Street for irrigation during World War II some residents relocated to Round Valley Ranch west of town and still call themselves Clearfieldians today despite living there since 1945. In 1904 commissioners voted to change the name to honor Captain John A. Clearfield who had led a force against Mormon separatists at Black Hawk Pass in 1857; this move angered many farmers who felt that their property had been taken without their consent or compensation – though captain clearfields descendants continue to claim title to all property acquired since then including much within present day ClearFIELD borders
