Clearfield is a city in Clearfield County, Utah, United States. The population was 9,912 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. Clearfield is named for Colonel John A. Clearfield who led the first Mormon Battalion to California in 1847 and founded Cache Valley near present-day Springdale. Clearfield began as a small trading post on the Great Salt Lake in 1853 by Colonel John A. Clearfield and his men from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). In 1865, Brigham Young appointed Clearfield's founder, Captain James Wightman, commander of all the LDS settlements east of the Great Lakes. At that time there were only about fifty Latter-day Saint settlers in Clearfield Park south of Logan Boulevard and north of State Street (now called North Temple Drive), but by 1880 they had reached 1,000 residents. In 1892–93 an irrigation ditch was built through Cache Valley to irrigate agriculture on what is now Springdale Avenue and Pioneer Trail; this helped stimulate construction along State Street which then became one block long between Gaston Avenue and Center Street between 1893 and 1899; these blocks later became known as "The Strip." In 1902 President George Q. Cannon directed that all temples be built within three years--a directive which was met with vigorous construction beginning in 1903 under First Presidency leadership including Gordon B Hinckley Sr., Spencer W Kimball, Jerald L Maxwell III ami Orson Hyde; many buildings were completed before World War I forced a halt due to wartime restrictions on temple building materials such as steel beams used for roofing pleasure hotels across the country—all but two being completed during President Franklin D Roosevelt's terms (1929–1945). On April 6, 1909 Sterling Price donated land extending northerly fromCenter Street past Gaston Avenue into Springdale Township so that Zion National Park could be expanded immediately adjacent toPrice Creek while other landowner donations were processed over several months leading up to dedication ceremonies attended by Presidents Harry S Truman (1946) and Richard M Nixon (1974). In 1916 Mayor Fenton Coffey organized a citizens' committee to study ways improve civic services within clearfields limits; this Committee recommended annexation of neighboring townships because those townships did not provide adequate police or fire protection services plus improved school facilities necessary for growth; this recommendation was accepted by Council on November 3rd 1916 without further debate or public comment having been taken regarding it since its inception five weeks earlier when members convened at Mrs Addie Hoggs' home after her death suddenly occurred four days prior thereto resulting from an accidental fall outdoors while she bathed her toddler son William at their home Settlement House located just south side State Street across Hermon Road next door to Chittenden Insurance Company compound now known as Spectrum Towers apartments Building which fronts State street across Hermon Road opposite Mrs Hoggs Settlement House today

Clearfield is a city in Uinta County, Utah, United States. The population was 9,569 at the 2010 census. Clearfield is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The Salt Lake Tribune has reported that Clearfield may be the most Mormon town outside of LDS headquarters in Utah. The first settlers to Clearfield were David Cope and his family who arrived in 1847. In 1854 they erected the first log cabin in what is now Clearfield. The following year they hired George Atherton to help with their farming operation; he homesteaded land on Cottonwood Creek and named it Clearfield after himself and his son Samuel Cleary. In 1860 John Wittemeyer settled on Cottonwood Creek west of present day Clearfield. By 1870 there were over 20 residents living in Clearfield including 6 farmers, 2 mechanics, 4 blacksmiths, 1 laborer and 3 traders/commerce interests doing business from small stores on Main Street (now First Avenue). In 1876 Brigham Young organized a wagon train from Nauvoo, Illinois led by Heber Cushing to cross the Great Basin Desert for the winter into central Utah Territory; this wagon train was composed mostly of LDS members en route to establish an wintering ground for Saints west of Nauvoo for religious purposes during their extended stay in central Utah before beginning their march eastward towardsSalt Lake Valley across the Great Western Plainswinter season January through April.. A few days after reaching Springdale Junction on March 26th Brigham Young called all those accompanying him " aloud into one room" where he committed them all to God's will as regards their future actions while they remained isolated within that room until evening when they were required again to exercise obedience thereto...After spending several days at Springdale Junction these emigrants continued southwesterly along side a large cattle drive belonging to Preston Stroud which had originated near Independence Rock just north of Ogden...That drive crossed over Snake River onto US-15 about 10 miles east of Springdale Junction arriving at Provo Crossing about mid-March next year whence continuing down highway 15 northeastward along US-15 until finally reaching Cache Valley late March 1865 - some ten weeks after leavingSpringdale Junction Brigham Young ordered all those travelling with him remaining behind instead setting up camp near Millcreek Mountain where he died three days later from exposure due to snow drifts mountainside...Cache Valley became known as Provo because Bishop James Eames built his house there in 1865." By 1880 there were only 8 residents living in Clearfields but by 1890 it had grown to over 100 people with 5 farmssteading aroundClearfields Post Office according as early as 1892: “the post office [was] located within easy reach both dry goods and groceries” so people could easily get what they needed without having to go out into town." In 1902 clearFIELD incorporated as a city under territorial jurisdiction; it was again annexed by Salt Lake City in 1959." In 2006 clearFIELD had 7% less population than Salt Lake City did but more businesses than either city."
