Clearfield is a city in Clearfield County, Utah, United States. The population was 18,927 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Clearfield County and home to most of the city's businesses. Clearfield is one of the fastest-growing cities in Utah. The city has been called "the Gateway to the Great Salt Lake" because it lies on Interstate 15 exit 149B which parallels the eastern edge of the Great Salt Lake Valley. The region that would become Clearfield was settled by Mormon pioneers in 1847 as part of what became known as Waco District. One settler, John Capps, named his new town after George A. Smith, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). In 1850 James Wigglesworth donated land for a military post at what would become Clearfield. On July 24, 1850 Brigham Young issued an order authorizing members of The Church to establish townships in Cache Valley in order to provide grazing and other agricultural benefits for Native Americans who had recently arrived from Oklahoma Territory. In 1851 Joseph Fenton established a wagon factory near present-day Jordan Valley and suggested that settlers move into his valley so that he could get a good price for goods he imported from New England via wagon route 1A (today's I-15). By 1860 about 120 people lived in village formed around Fenton's wagon factory; by 1870 this number had swelled to 300 and 600 when nearby Deer Park was founded on November 12, 1870 by twenty men led by Orson Hyde Ballinger with help from LDS apostle Snow Scullion; all three communities were renamed Clearfield on February 3rd 1871 due to objections from residents of neighboring Cedar City who felt they should have received first consideration for such an honor since their town had been abandoned by Mormons shortly before Cedar City had its own name change! As early as 1861 there existed two public schools: one within Fort Bridger where troops garrisoned during the Civil War used school buildings until 1865; another school building also served as fortification against possible Indian attack while Fort Laramie operated out Oftheway until 1862 when it too closed down due to lack of soldiers presence or funding necessary to maintain it; finally after Dodge CityCHECKPOINT was organized on December 21st 1861 students went overland NON STOP FROM FORT LARRIMIE TO CLEARFIELD stopping only at Pocatello for supplies then continuing nonstop through some pretty rugged country getting lost doing so lol! What an experience must have been like trying not only catch up with someone living many miles ahead but also travel acrosscountry without any typeof map or compass!!! Clearfield, Utah is a town in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Clearfield is located on the north side of the Salt Lake Valley and is bordered by Tooele County to the east, Davis County to the south, and Kane County to the west. The main street of Clearfield is Main Street. The community was founded in 1902 by pioneers who came from Illinois and were looking for an area where they could farm and build a new home. The name "Clearfield" comes from two local streams which flowed through it at that time: Clear Creek and Spring River. In 1907, Clearfield became part of what was then known as Logan Township. It remained a part of Logan Township until it became part of Kane County on January 3, 1912 under territorial legislation passed by Congress that repealed the last vestige of Mexican rule in Arizona and New Mexico. On July 1 of that year, Clearfield became one of eighty-six towns in Kane County when it was organized with a population of 498 people. The first post office in Clearfield opened in 1903. At its peak during World War I (1914-18), Clearfield had a population of 2200 residents; however this number decreased rapidly due to military service (either as soldiers or civilians) throughout World War I and II combined plus economic factors such as increased production at nearby defense plants associated with war production stimulated by government funding programs like WAC (World War Agriculture) which gave farmers access to land formerly used for livestock grazing purposes). As recently as 1955 there were only fourteen residents living there full-time; however today there are over 200 residents living here permanently or temporarily depending on their job or hobby outside the town limits including many retirees from Cache Valley who commute into ClearFIELD for work reasons only! One significant event associated with earlyClearfields development happened when President Harry S Truman visited Cache Valley on October 20th 1944 while he toured American companies manufacturing munitions near La Verne California before his visit to Japan two days later also visiting Utah sites along his trip resulting in good business forCacheValley firms during those weeks especially those producing natural gas supplies needed for Japan's wartime economy particularly given concerns about strategic bombing raids targeting Japanese cities critical resources like oil refineries etcetera .
