Centerville, Utah is a town in Davis County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Centerville is located on the Great Salt Lake and is part of the Provo–Orem metropolitan area. The history of Centerville begins with three families who started farming there in 1876. They named their land "Centerville," after the small village near London that they had seen while traveling through England. The first store in Centerville opened its doors in 1886 and was operated by Wm. Ladd and his son-in-law Jno. Hurlbut from Illinois. In 1893, Averill & Clark opened a grocery store adjacent to what is now Centerville Elementary School and later became known as the "Centerville Store." That store closed in 1984 but not before it served as home to many local community organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce for over sixty years In 1912, Centerville became an incorporated town with a post office and began developing its own infrastructure including schools, businesses and a library which has been open since 1916 In 1964, CENTURYLINK COMMUNICATIONS INC.,nicknamed "Cablevision", came to Centerville through merger with Telepictures Corporation which had just completed construction of two large television sets at Main Street and Depot Road; CENTURYLINK's first big purchase outside of North America TheCENTURYLINK Center Complex (renamed Midvale Center in 2006) anchors downtown Centerville with more than 150 businesses/shops + 12 acres of parkland Today's economy revolves around technology services (+1 million sq ft leased space), agricultural products (+6% yr average), manufacturing (+5% yr average)

Centerville was founded in 1881 by two Mormons, George H. Smith and his wife Emma. The first store opened in Centerville on October 15, 1881. At that time there were only 10 residents in Centerville. By 1886, Centerville had a school and post office and had grown to include a dozen homes and six businesses. In 1902 Centerville had its own telephone line and by 1907 it boasted a bank and two churches- one Lutheran and one Methodist- as well as three schools: One for boys (now known as Centervile School), one for girls (now known as Girls Town Elementary), and one for children of farmers who worked on the farms around the community. In 1915 Centerville became the site of an experimental Dugway Proving Ground military airfield where planes used for research were developed including early models of Lockheed L-5A1 " Lockheed Electra" airplanes which became famous during World War II when they were used by the United States Air Force's Ninth Air Force to drop bombs on Japanese targets from high altitudes over Japan without hitting land or causing civilian casualties. In 1922 centervile trustees organized an agricultural fairgrounds adjacent to their home which continues to be held each year with proceeds going to various charities in Centerville/Provo area
