The brothers started out manufacturing rifles and shotguns but soon began producing Target Holders as well. Initially,Target holders were made from wood but eventually they became made from plastic or metal with synthetic materials becoming more common in later years. Centerville, Utah is a town in Carbon County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,043 at the 2010 census. Centerville is located in the eastern corner of Carbon County and is bordered by the towns of Blanding to the east and Cedar City to the north. Centerville is about an hour's drive from Salt Lake City. Centerville was founded on February 14, 1871 by Hyrum Smith and his family. The first post office in Centerville was established on March 1, 1871. The name of the town comes from a location called "Cedar Grove" near where it now stands. It is said that when Hyrum Smith saw a grove of cedar trees he named his new community "Centerville". Centerville grew rapidly during its early years due to its strategic location next to several roads which led into central Salt Lake City. In 1915, Centerville became part of Farmington Hills Township in Farmington County and remained so until it became independent again as a town on November 3, 1995. In 2000, Centerville voted to become an incorporated municipality with its own government; this change took effect on January 1, 2001 In 2007 - 2008 Centerville received top awards from both The Daily Herald Newspaper Company and Utah Press Association for excellence in local news reporting while also being honored as one of America's Great Places magazine's Top 10 Rural Towns for 2007-2008
