Centerville, Utah is a small town in the Wasatch Front region of Utah that has been inhabited by Native Americans since the time of the Ancestral Puebloan people. The first European to occur in Centerville was Spanish Explorador José Francisco Vallejo on July 10, 1776 while exploring what is now known as Provo County. At this time Centerville was part of Juan Diego Mexican Cession and was organized as a village under Spanish jurisdiction on March 7, 1847. The first African American to reside in Centerville was George Washington Payne who arrived during the early years of Territorial Utah. Today Centerville is home to several hundred residents and boasts one of the most diverse cultures around with residents from all over the world living here. There are many businesses located within Centerville including two banks, four churches, three libraries, four movie theaters and one grocery store. One of Centerville's most popular attractions is its annual centennial parade which takes place every May in conjunction with Festival Park which hosts an assortment of events throughout the year including arts & crafts shows, carnival games and more. The parade features floats made out of recycled materials along with local talent and it's one of Centerville's largest celebrations annually.

The Centerville Rifle Club was chartered on that date and operated out of a small frame building located at the corner of First and Second streets. The club fired a series of shots at an apple orchard in the town square. One shot hit a tree in the square and caused some loss of life but no serious damage. The Centerville Rifle Club continued to meet monthly from October 10th until May 2nd, 1888 when it disbanded because of lack of members. On December 9th, 1889, Utah Territory was organized and Centerville became part of Salt Lake City. On January 3rd, 1890, Centerville rifle club member George Waddell killed two bulls in what is considered to be its first hunting deer season. The centerville rifle club continued to meet monthly for another three years before disbanding again due to lack of members.

The centennial of CENTCOM's establishment was celebrated in 1984 with a reunion celebration which featured keynote speeches by then-Governor Curt Palmey and Congressman David Dreier of Utah's 3rd congressional district; exhibits on local history; music by the United States Naval Band;and food service provided by Lark's Luncheonette restaurant adjacent to Utah State University's Main Campus building.
Centerville was founded in 1847 as a Mormon settlement on theranch of Centerville Mesa. The original settlers were John D. Lee, his wife Emma, and their four children. The town grew rapidly due to its location on a water route connecting Provo and Salt Lake City and its access to timber and grazing land. By 1860, Centerville had a population of about 100 people. In 1871, the townsite was purchased by Brigham Young from the Lennox sisters for $15 per acre. The townsite was renamed Centerville after Young's home state of Utah. In 1870, Centerville became the capital of Provisional Utah Territory following the completion of the Trans-Missouri Expedition by General James K. Polk that year. On January 6, 1871, Centerville became the permanent capital of Utah Territory when Brigham Young proclaimed it as such with an ordinance declaring that "the name given to this place is forever fixed upon us." In 1870–1872, Centerville experienced several devastating fires that destroyed most of the town center and left many residents homeless. The fires also caused some damage to centervilles namesake building which still stands today – The Capitol Building (now known as Rickshaw Hall). The first centennial celebration for Centerville occurred in 1984 and was attended by local dignitaries including then-Governor Ralph Babbitt and Mayor Cliff Benson along with representatives from all over southern Utah County celebrating what has come to be known as "The Year Ofcenterville."
