In 1998, Congress passed the Brady Law, which required background checks on all individuals purchasing handguns in America. This law made it illegal for anyone without a background check to purchase a handgun over the phone or online. The Brady Law also created several other regulations that pertained to firearm possession and use by Americans. These regulations included requirements that gun owners must present government-issued identification when picking up their guns from any licensed dealer, that no person under 21 years old be allowed to owning a handgun without parental permission, and that no person carrying a handgun should show their face outside of their home (except during open carry). Despite these laws being put into place, there have been numerous incidents where people were injured or killed due to mishandling of firearms by civilians. For example, in 2007, John Lott Jr., an NRA lobbyist was shot and killed after coming home with his wife’s Glock pistol while she shopped at Walmart parking lot near his house in Maryland (the couple owned two pistols each). Another incident occurred in 2017 when Stephen Paddock opened fire on concertgoers inside Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino Shooting Range using an AR-15 rifle (Paddock had been banned from owning weapons because he had recently committed three shootings).[1] Despite these tragedies occurng every year across different locations across America due purelyto firearm misuse by innocent civilians not controlled by state governments/lobbying organizations such as the NRA,[2] lawmakers continue attempts at gun safety legislation despite public outcry[3]. The most recent attempt at reform came about through Feinstein’s bill known as The Assault Weapons Bill[4], which would have limited magazine capacity on assault rifles and removed some other features of modern rifles like bump stocks[5]. Despite strong opposition from both left wing groups as well as right wing groups within Congress,[6], Feinstein’s bill made it through committee stage before ultimately dying out last year.[7] Nevertheless Gun violence continues unabated throughout America with over 350 fatalities attributed each year alone due solelyto unlicensed ownership/possession of firearms

A gristmill and sawmill were built in 1862; both remain standing today as part of the downtown district. By 1870,Centerville had a population of 100 people and two hotels: The Masonic Temple and The Star Hotel. In 1898,Centerville established its own ZIP code when it formed a city government under City Manager control withself-government principles. A post office opened at Centerville on October 15, 1899; it continued to serve until 1971 when it was moved to Ogden and updated toOnline service In 1907, centervilles first telephone line went up; this line continues operational today as Utah Telephone Company’s Main Street Line #1 . The 1911 census found that there were 102 residents living in Centervilles 5 blocks long streets with one store each on First Street between Highland Avenue and State Street
