John Tait was also responsible for setting up irrigation rights along the Great Salt Lake which led to increased grain production around Centerville and growth throughout eastern Kane County. By 1881, there were over 100 people living within sight ofCenterville's courthouse square where today's First Baptist Church stands." In 1902, Centerville annexed by Kane County after residents voted to do so following growing concern about water shortages caused by rapid population growth within the county boundaries (Kane County had been created earlier that year). According to historian Shane Kuehl: "The voters authorized annexation because they believed that their new city would have more than enough water supplies provided by its own source while satisfying all other needs of Kane County." That same year saw large improvements made to Centervile with new streets being laid out including Sixth Avenue which leads south into downtown and Seventh Avenue north into central business district before terminating at Market Square though this street name change never happened due unknown reasons."
