Centerville, Utah is a small town located in Sevier County, Utah, about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Cedar City. Centerville was platted in 1872 and named for Fayette Centennial Celebration on July 4th, 1872. The population of Centerville was 1,711 at the 2000 census. The townsite is located on the east side of Sevier River Valley between I-15 and US-191. It includes parts of the city of Cedar City as well as sections of Logan and Springdale. Centerville has a public school system with 24 students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. There are also six private schools within a one-mile radius of Centerville Elementary School. Centerville is home to two churches: First Baptist Church which was built in 1908 and enlarged in 1951; and Jehovah's Witnesses which were started worshiping here in 1925. A creamery opened here in 1902 and still operates today as the village store. Centerville's first store was built by G W Whitehead on Main Street opposite what is now the high school entrance (later renamed Main Street United Methodist). The store prospered until 1907 when it burned down due to an accident caused by parents who left their children unattended inside while they went shopping outside. In 1910, J B Hennig erected a new store building on present day Hiwassee Boulevard which served as both stores until 1949 when that building too burned down (probably because it became saturated with oil from centering service stations). The current buildings were erected around 1948/49 at a cost of $5,000 according to records kept by the Sevier County Planning Department . They are made out of adobe bricks with stucco finish .

The town continued to grow, and by 1880 Centerville had become an incorporated city. The city experienced rapid growth during the years following World War II, thanks to its status as a major military base and its role in supplying goods to other cities throughout Utah and Nevada. In the 1960s, Centerville began to lose its importance as a local economic center, but it still remains an important community today.
