Centerville, Utah is a town located in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Centerville is close to Provo and Ogden. Centerville is part of the Provo-Ogden-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Statistical Area. Centerville was established in 1876 as a small trading post by ranchers and farmers near present day Centerville Junction on Uinta Road. It quickly became a center for trade and commerce with its location between two mountain ranges and access to both rivers made it an ideal spot for growth. The post office in Centerville was first opened in 1878, soon becoming one of the most important civic institutions in the community. In 1904, Centerville incorporated as a city under an act of Congress which granted local government theretofore never had been granted within Indian Territory (now Utah). The city rapidly grew due to its strategic location and strong economic base which included lumberyards, grain elevators, meatpacking plants and other essential industries during the early years of this new century. Today, many of these businesses continue operation today as well as several dozen others that have relocated or are expanding their operations into Centerville since 1990! In recent years, CENTERVILLE has seen continued revitalization through aggressive marketing plans including downtown redevelopment that includes more than 20 storefronts overlooking Main Street; renovation of numerous buildings within town limits; establishment of a new park/milk plant/school complex adjacent to Central High School; construction of a high school annex building on Court Street; and designation by The City Club OF AMERICA as “America’s Best Place To Live” for 2017!

Centerville, Utah is one of the oldest towns in the United States. The town was founded by Mormon pioneers in 1847 and has been a part of the Salt Lake Valley region since it was settled. Centerville is located about 25 miles east of downtown Salt Lake City on State Route 152. The first settler in Centerville was Capt. George Bridgeman, who arrived in 1847. The town was named for John Cranch, a British subject who had come to Utah as an emigrant in 1839. Centerville began to grow rapidly after settlers brought over irrigation water from nearby Provo and built homes and businesses around what is now the centennial square. In 1850, Centerville became the territorial capital of Utah when Brigham Young organized the statehood movement and moved the capital fromCouncil Bluffs, Iowa to Salt Lake City. In 1865, Centerville became a city with its own government when it annexed parts of nearby Logan and Provo. By 1925, however,Centerville had fallen behind other cities as Utah's population growth slowed down due to increased production within the agricultural sector and new arrivals from eastern Canada and America than from Mormon settlers in Utah. The city experienced another rebirth starting in the late 1960s as efforts were made by local officials to attract businesses back into town after years of neglect or lack thereof during periods of statewide economic decline caused by social unrest associated with changes at both political levels throughout much of that decade nationally including anti-Mormon sentiment that reached epidemic proportions across much of American society culminating with President Johnson's Executive Order 9066 suppressing religious faiths accelerating until nearly all Americans were nominal atheists by 1969 limiting access even to so-called "integrated" public education opportunities for Mormons while privately funded sectarian academies continued unabated providing an open door for medieval learning methods known today euphemistically as "intellectual enrichment." After decades characterized by subsequent arson fires that destroyed many buildings along Main Street (now called Second Avenue) due largely to unchecked alcohol abuse among some residents followed by various attempts at redevelopment beginning circa 2006 through ongoing public/private partnerships which have resulted mostly in vacant storefronts currently occupied intermittently but not without occasional community events including Fourth Avenue Day which brings together local businesses owners along with their customers/clients for food trucks sponsored parade down Second Avenue
Centerville is a small town in Utah, located about 25 miles (40 km) east of Logan and about 25 miles (40 km) west of Ogden. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. Centerville is part of Logan- Cache Valley Metropolitan Statistical Area.
