Cedar City is a small town in Cedar County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,057 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ogden–Clearfield metropolitan area. In 1882, Brigham Young decided to establish a new colony in central Utah and named it Cedar City after the cedar trees that grew near the settlement. The first settlers arrived in 1883 and began building their homes and outbuildings on what is now South First Street. In 1886, Cedar City became an incorporated city with Wm Hales as its first mayor. At that time, Cedar City had only two residences: the White House (now known as Old Post Office) on Main Street and John Fenton's home on East Second Street. By 1890, there were over 100 residents living in Cedar City. The early days of rifle stocks history were challenging for many reasons: The cost of acquiring rifles was high, ammunition was scarce and expensive, and shooters needed to be able to shoot well enough to competeationally bring home trophies. However, despite these difficulties some members of the community took great pride in their rifles and shotguns and helped contribute to local gun clubs which served as social outlets for shooting enthusiasts around town. In 1913,[1] Rifle Clubs of America (RCA) was founded in Cedar City by Range Master Major General Samuel Eliot Morison with the goal of providing “a place where men may come together from all parts of America who share interests common enough but too often left unspoken”[2]. RCA quickly became one of the most successful NRA organizations with over 2 million members across North America by 1918[3]. Despite this success RCA lost support during World War I due to wartime restrictions on firearms ownership which limited opportunities for shooters to compete effectively against other countries’ armed forces. However following World War I rifle stocks activity increased significantly within RCA with new directors being appointed throughout 1919-1920 including President Harry S Truman[4]; at this time rifle stocks also began becoming popular among target shooters who found solace in their ability to hit targets at 600 yards or more using modern technology rather than relying solely upon traditional methods such as practice/trial shooting or muzzleloading experimentation

Cedar City Rifle stocks history began in 1892 when a group of men from Cedar City, Utah formed the Cedar City Rifle and Pistol Club. The club purchased a rifle and pistol from S. W. Brown and Sons of Independence, Iowa, and soon started practicing at the local park. In 1903, the club moved to the old post office building on Main Street, where they continued to practice and hold their meetings. In 1912, they founded the Cedar City Rifle Association (CCRA) to help promote rifle shooting in Cedar City. CCRA organized annual state meets to determine rankings for different states in various rifle competitions. In 1916, CCRA relocated its operations to what is now known as Building A on Third Street in downtown Cedar City. The club continued to meet there until it disbanded in 1977 due to lack of members/supportive legislation from then-city manager Harry Latham. That same year, Building A was donated by Jerald Rufeisen to the city as part of Mayor George Hebert's "Latham Legacy" program which honored then-mayor's accomplishments during his time as mayor including promoting gun rights issues within town limits. In 1978, CCRA member Tom Buehler donated a new rifle stock locker built out of wood salvaged from nearby Heber College buildings into what is now known as Building C on Third Street in downtown CedarCity. This building served as home base for many years for CCRA before it was sold adjacent toBuilding A in 1997 and used mostly for storage purposes until it was renovated into an event space called "The Kneeling Room" inside of Building D next door in early 2018 which hosts special events such as NRA Annual Meeting & Conventioneers shoots etc... Now thatCCRA has been reborn with a new name - Utah Rifles - we hope that our efforts will lead us back onto the field once again!
