Cedar City is located in Utah, just northwest of the state’s capital, Salt Lake City. The city was founded in 1847 by Mormon settlers and has been a center for the LDS Church since its establishment. As of 2010, Cedar City had a population of over 120,000 residents. The Lord moved the Mormons from their original land in western New York to what is now Utah in 1830. In 1847, Cedar City was founded as a post station on the Great Salt Lake Railroad and soon became an important transportation hub for wagon trains traveling between Nauvoo (now Illinois) and Logan (now Utah). The town grew rapidly due to its location and infrastructure; by 1850 Cedar City had a population of 1,500 residents. The Latter-day Saints built many churches and schools throughout CedarCity during the mid-19th century. One such school was the University of Deseret which operated from 1851 until 1861. A major event that took place at this school occurred on April 6, 1857 when Brigham Young led an expedition against the Navajo people who were living near CedarCity. The battle resulted in a great victory for the Latter-day Saints and numerous Nephites were killed or captured. In 1860, Brigham Young announced his plan to move all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints westward into new territory that would be formed from parts of Arizona Territory and Mexico Territory including what is now Texas County, Oklahoma Territory; this announcement created significant public opposition among some LDS members who felt they should stay put in Utah while their brethren made their exodus to Oregon and California.. In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln issued Executive Order 9102 which granted citizenship to anyone who desired it within 20 days – thereby ending any hopes that Mormons might be forcedwestward under force or coercion. This order effectively ended Mormon aspirations to settle beyond Nebraska borderlines. During World War II several thousand American soldiers stationed at Fort Douglas outside CedarCity served as local guards while other troops barracks were constructed nearby on State Street (). After war ended these barracks were torn down but remaining evidence suggests that high levels of pornography were used during these years inside Fort Douglas (). Today there is still evidence left behind including Rankin Barracks exhibit which features military uniforms hung upon racks with pornographic magazines visible beneath
