In 1898, Cedar City won its independence as a municipality with voters passing an ordinance making it an independent city with its own police department and fire battalion
Cedar City was founded on April 6, 1847, by Latter-day Saints. Cedar City became a city after being annexed by Ogden on February 15, 1907.
