Cedar City, Utah is a small town located in the US state of Utah and has been home to guns since the 1800s. The first gun in Cedar City was a crude muzzleloader rifle that was used by local ranchers to take game. In 1885, Cedar City had its own regulation firearms ordinance which regulated handguns and shotguns. In 1938, Cedar City passed an ordinance which established a city police department and placed restrictions on ownership of handguns and rifles. The ordinance also prohibited people from bringing firearms into the city limits. This law was repealed in 1945 after it was found to be unconstitutional. In 1952, Cedar City passed an ordinance establishing a municipal fire arm control program which regulates handgun ownership within the city limits. This program expired in 1984 due to lack of funding. Since the 1990s, there has been an effort to re-establish gun control laws in Cedar City through legislation and referenda. In 2007, voters approved Measure V which establishes regulations on concealed carry permits for residents of the city limits. The measure also requires cities with similar ordinances to adopt similar regulations. In 2013, voters repealed two ordinances related to gun control measures; Measure I & II were passed because they did not meet community standards set forth by proponents of those measures who claimed that these ordinances would infringe on Second Amendment rights of citizens living within their municipalities . It includes all or part of Cache Valley, Park City, Vernal (including Layton), Provo, Nephi Junction and Ephraim Junction neighborhoods in Weber County; Aspen Heights and Carbon Hill neighborhoods in Davis County; and parts of St George and West Jordan counties in Utah. Cedar City was founded by Mormon pioneers from Independence Missouri on April 6, 1847 as Fort Bridger while they were traveling through what is now Wyoming Territory. They named their new settlement after Mount Carmel which they saw rising in the distance. The Mormons first built a stockade around what is now downtown CedarCity before continuing to build more settlements over time including Cannery Row (the present day State Capitol Building) which became their capital with its own jail and post office before Fort Bridger was abandoned for good in 1851 because it was no longer defendable against Native Americans waiting for them there every winter during their annual migration across North America from Iowa to California/Oregon (the Great Basin). In 1858 Brigham Young moved his headquarters from Council Bluffs Iowa to CedarCity due to increasing hostilities between LDS settlers within Nauvoo Illinois and residents there over land purchases made by Joseph Smith Sr.. After Smith's death Brigham Young ordered Agriculture Minister Orson Hyde to travel throughout western Nebraskaoling that he would find "a place where we can have our church built" so that Nauvoo could be abandoned again until such time as this could be accomplished. On November 25 1830 Hyde found precisely that location when he arrived at what is now known as Cottonwood Heights looking for water rights near Sioux Falls South Dakota after spotting some Mormon farmers putting up stakes nearby related to their investments inThat year also saw one of Utah's earliest schools open when Prospect Academy opened under School Board President John Atherton teaching children from seven-year olds until high school graduation although instruction continued until1859 due largely to donations received from local business owners John Witherspoon Iron Mills & Co., James Hite Coal Mines & Navigation Company

Cedar City was founded in 1847 as a Mormon Settlement on the Research Ranch, about 10 miles northeast of what is now Cedar City. The first settlers were men from Palmyra, New York and they built a log cabin and started a small farm. In 1850, Brigham Young sent his Relief Society to Cedar City to proselytize for the gospel. The group grew quickly and soon there were over 50 sisters living in Cedar City. In 1856, the Central Pacific Railroad arrived in Cedar City and began construction of its line eastward from Salt Lake City. This new development led to increased business for the town and helped it grow rapidly into an important center of Utah industry. By 1860, Cedar City had become the largest city in Utah with over 100 businesses including breweries, stores, hotels, mills and schools. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), CedarCity was one of several towns located near Salt Lake Valley that became battlefields where Native Americans fought against Union forces. One military engagement that occurred near CedarCity was the Battle of Stockton on July 24th 1861. Aftermath of this battle saw many civilian casualties as Confederate forces attempted to secure supplies taken by Union troops pursuing their retreating army
