Cedar City, UT is home to the world’s largest Gun Pouch Museum and Heritage Center. This museum contains over 150 firearms from throughout history, as well as items related to the Cedar City area’s gun culture. The museum is open Monday through Friday 9am-4pm and Saturday 10am-2pm. Admission is free for all visitors. The Gun Pouch Museum was founded in 1984 by Rev. Gary Wirthman of the Cedar City Church of Christ with the goal of educating people about guns and their history in Cedar City. The Gun Pouch Museum has since grown into one of Utah’s leading museums dedicated to firearm heritage and education. The museum contains more than 150 firearms from around the world, including a collection of unique Western guns dating back to 1875. As part of its mission, the Gun Pouch Museum also educates children about gun safety and NRA programming. In addition to exhibits on firearm history, features at the Gun Pouch Museum include an outdoor shooting range and a library filled with books on firearms, ammunition,Gunsmithing tools, historical artifacts and much more!

Cedar City became a city in 1847, when the Mormons organized their new colony of Utah. The city was founded on the Cedar River by pioneers who drove out Native Americans. The first mayor of Cedar City was John C. Fremont, and the first council consisted of six members. In 1850, Cedar City became the first town in Utah to be incorporated as a city. In 1860, Cedar City became the capital of Utah Territory and remained so until 1907 when it was moved to Ogden. During its time as the capital, Cedar City hosted many important meetings including that which created Utah's Constitution. In 1897, Cedar City lost its status as capital when Provo took over that role. The economy of Cedar City has been strongly dependent upon agriculture for most of its history; however, heavy industry has also developed in recent decades including a large plastics plant and two factories making aluminium cans and plastic bottles respectively. The city is today home to around 50% of the population who are descendants of Mormon settlers from pioneer days in what was then British Columbia (now Canada).
Cedar City is a city in Cedar County, Utah, United States. The population was 16,865 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cedar County. The first settlers in Cedar City were those who arrived from Ohio in 1847, and others who came during the Gold Rush of 1849-51. The first post office was established in 1850, and the town name was changed to Cedar City on July 6, 1872. The original courthouse building burned down in 1901, but a new courthouse was completed and dedicated on December 15, 1902. During World War I (1914-18), Cedar City served as an air base for military operations over southern Utah and Arizona; it also became home to many government employees working on national defense projects during that time period. After the war ended, many people returned to their homes while others stayed until the early 1920s when construction began on what would become today's downtown area of Cedar City. In 1927, President Calvin Coolidge designated CedarCity as one of five regional centers for economic development within his New Deal program known as "The Great Contributions". This designation helped spur growth in downtown business activity which led to increased housing availability throughout the city limits by 1930 with completion of what would be called "The Redevelopment Project". In 1941 members of Congress passed legislation designating downtown CedarCity as an open-air shopping center under Senate Bill 709 (later renamed Christmastime Plaza). The project included demolition of some older buildings including the old courthouse and jail buildings and construction of a new plaza with multiple restaurants/stores/bars/theater along First Street south between Main Avenue east and State Street west. On November 26th 1946 it opened its doors to shoppers from all over America - more than 10 million people visited during its six year run! Unfortunately due to fire damage done by vandals prior to its reopening several years later much of Downtown had been lost or destroyed including most importantly Oneonta Hall which once housed many local banks dating back to before 1830! A few years later another redevelopment project took place across First Street west between Main Avenue east and State Street west known as Cottonwood Place which included renovation/addition of apartments®, hotels®, shops®, etc., leading up to opening in 1958 which marked yet another milestone in Downtown's history! Today Cottonwood Place remains oneofthedowntownactivityssuperiortoall precedingprojectsandstillservingasoneofcordilleraindowntown' s main commercial areas
