Cedar City, Utah is home to the oldest gunsmith in the Western Hemisphere and one of the most important gun manufacturing centers in America. The city was founded by Mormons who migrated from Missouri in the 1840s. The first Gunsmith Shop was opened in 1851 and it became an important part of Cedar City's economy. On November 6th he set out from Cedar City with his men under cover of darkness on what would become known as "the Mormon March." For two days they marched unopposed through rugged terrain heading eastward towards Salt Lake Valley. At night they camped near present-day Provo Canyon while journeying northwest over snow-covered peaks towards Cache Creek Summit (present day Park Creek). By morning they had reachedcache creek summit whereupon they ascended intoCache Valley National Monument for breakfast before continuing their journey northeast via Box Elder Summit (now North Temple) down Bears Ears Mesa towards Stansbury Junction on December 1st - this event is now known as Pioneer Day in Utah! Once arrived at Council Bluffs south of Salt Lake City, Worthy formed a second rifle company also named Utah Rangers which he called "Mormon Battalion" after Brigham Young's personal regiment that served throughout Indian Wars up until1898 when all Mormon troops were disbanded pursuant to United States military policy known as Thetermination Order! This order allowed American Indians unrestricted access to firearms so any Native American trying To obtain firearms must turn them over To white authorities or face punishment Under penalty Of death! The following year saw another major White settlement established just north of Cedar City – Ogden – making it easier for settlers to find land and purchase rifles & shotguns needed for defense against hostile Indians – something that guns would play an integral role In both conflicts! In 1850 John Coyle erected a log cabin located just west side Of Main Street between Third Avenue South & First Avenue North opposite School House #1), serving as Geary’s Store From January 1850 til July 1852 when store burned down; Owned & operated by John Coyle Himself!! In 1861 Jno Coyle moved his family from Log Cabin location 2 miles east Side OF Main Street along US Hwy 89 North TO Sandy Butte about 10 miles West Side OF I-15 at about 8 ½ miles long !! A post office was established at Sandy Butte on Nov 25 1861!!! There are many theories why this happened but no definitive proof exists………………………………………..
