The first school was built westward from downtown by missionaries Isaac Backus and John Wirthlin on October 25th, 1849. It was called Academy School and served grades K-8 until 1861 when it merged with Kindergarten School #2 which had been established two years earlier near Main Street corner Park Avenue to form Brigham Young Academy which still operates today as one of four private schools within Kane County public education system managed by Utah State Board Of Education In 1865 Brigham Young Academy moved eastward across Mill Creek into what is now North Halls Building (now part of Kimball Auditorium) on College Avenue between Second and Third Streets where it remained until 1862 when it merged with Girls’ High School #1 along with East High School #2 to form Brigham Young Female academy which still operates today as one among four private schools within Kane County public education system managed by Utah State Board Of Education
