In 1911, Harry Houdini came to Brigham City and began performing shows here. One night he had dinner at The Lion's Head restaurant with some local business people. After dinner he returned to The Lion's Headand picked up his straight razor which he had left on the bar! When asked what he was going to do with it, Houdini replied "I'm going to shave myself" (quoting from an interview). This event is generally considered to be the birth of knifemaking as we know it today! The Knifemakers Guild of America was founded in 1978 in response to concerns about tool quality and safety within the knife industry. Today, Knife Manufacturing Incorporated is one of the largest knife companies in North America with over 100 employees manufacturing quality traditional American madeknives including pocketknives, carving knives, fillets/sliders/files/ dice & julienne slicers etc., all made right here in Utah... just like our ancestors did more than three centuries ago!

Brigham City was founded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1847 as a small Mormon Settlement on the Utah River. By 1861, it had become a thriving town with an LDS temple and a population of over 1,500 people. In 1863, Brigham City was declared the temporary capital of what would eventually become Utah Territory. The city's growth continued during the years following its designation as the territory's capital and into the 20th century. Today, Brigham City is one of the most vibrant cities in Utah and serves as both a commercial and religious center for Mormons throughout the state. Brigham City's history began with missionaries who traveled to the area in 1847 to spread Christianity to local Native American groups. After reaching out to these groups, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) began arriving in increasing numbers beginning in 1851. quickly established itself as a major presence in this region, which at that time comprised much of present-day Utah County. The first church building constructed within present-day Brigham City was erected in 1852 by Joseph Folsom and his band of LDS pioneers under leadership from Brigham Young himself. This structure served as headquarters for many years before being replaced by another LDS temple later that same year. In 1861, after becoming temporary capital of what would eventually become Utah Territory, Brigham City became one of several cities located within what would come to be known as The Salt Lake Valley region; along with Provo (later renamed Sandy), Ogden (later renamed Logan), Saint George (later renamed Lee’s Summit), Cedarburg (now West Jordan), and other settlements located therein. At various times throughout its history, Brigham City has been home to numerous notable residents including Presidents James K., Franklin D., Lorenzo Snow; First Ladies Lucy Mack Smith and Emma Hale Smith; Senators John Wickersham and Orville Hodge; businessmen Ezra Taft Benson and David Wells Noble; clergymen LeGrand Richards Jr., Dieter Fuchsinger; educators Wilford Woodruff Sr., Lorenzo Snow III; physicians Drs Calvin Coolidge Sr., Ivanhoe BittonJr.; architects Carlisle Curtis Peck & Nephew & Hitchcock & Dent & Webb et al.; builders Shelly Sherman Cook + Brothers +Hickson+Moses+Curtis+Fremont etc.; entertainers Milton Berle & Tex Ritter ; basketball players Julius Erving & Magic Johnson ; Olympic athletes Usain Bolt et al . . . Additionally, throughout its history BYU’s Provo campus – which now contains more than 60 buildings - has attracted students from aroundthe world who have studied such subjects as business administration, sciences fiction/fiction writing/literature studies/law enforcement/psychology/.
