In the 1860s, American Fork, Utah was a small town of about 1,000 people. One of the town's most important businesses was the mercantile store. The mercantile store was also home to one of the first shooting ranges in America. In 1868, two men named William and Jesse James were indicted for attempted assassination of Ulysses S. Grant. While on trial, they shot an employee at the mercantile store who survived. This event led to gun control laws being passed in America and helped make shooting sports more popular in America.

During World War II much production took place at Rocky Mountain Arsenal (later Site B), which resulted in increased usage of groundwater resources that had been held back by local inhabitants who saw no need for such building near their homes because they could get their water from other sources or from irrigation canals built nearby. In 1946 American Fork voters passed an ordinance forbidding any further development within city limits without special approval from the county commission; this prohibition still applies today although some new housing developments have arisen within municipal boundaries since then due to natural resource depletion caused by exaggerated mine claims made by developers who were not properly licensed or required to consult with outside experts before proceeding with their projects). American Fork, Utah is a town in Wasatch County, Utah, United States. The population was 961 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1848 by Brigham Young and his followers following their escape from slavery in Illinois. American Fork is located on the eastern edge of the American Fork Reservoir which forms the border between Wasatch County and Kane County. The first Europeans to visit America Fork were Kit Carson and his party of six pioneers who journeyed westward from Kansas in 1847-1848. They were soon followed by George Atherton (1814-1868), a surveyor for the Uinta Valley Railroad. In 1850, Atherton surveyed a route through this part of the valley which became known as Atherton Boulevard today. He named it for himself and founded what is now American Fork Village near where he built his cabin. In 1849 Mormon apostle John Davenport arrived at Cedar City to begin proselytizing for Mormonism throughout Western Utah Territory. Davenport's wagon train stopped at American Fork on its way north from Ogden to Salt Lake City on July 10th, 1849 while passing through Wasatch County on its way eastward from Missouri River settlements such as West Jordan and Liberty Park across the Great Basin Desert to Zion National Park in present-day Utah or Nevada where they awaited initiation into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). After disembarking their goods, including some 240 converts - many women - they spent three weeks living among local Native Americans before moving on August 1st along with other LDS members initially headed for Winter Quarters near Topeka, Kansas but ultimately decided against going there because of difficult conditions near that location due to hostile Apache Indians who had laid waste much of central Arizona during the Mexican–American War years earlier that year when Mexico regained sovereignty over most of Arizona though portions including Tucson lay underMexican control until after World War II when it became UTAHANAGAS again under Mexican jurisdiction following an agreement between both countries following WWII ended hostilities in that area). On October 16th 1840 Brigham Young led a group numbering about 150 men women and children out onto Mount Carmel northeast of Cedar City Settlement while others traveled southwards downriver to join him later that day having first seen him riding above them atop Herriman Peak looking like "a great white cloud" according to one account while another reports he instructed them not to make any noise until they reached him saying "he would hear them if they made any."
