After a day-and-a-half ride, Atherton discovered that he had lost his way and returned home without encountering any Indians. On January 24th of that year, Brigham Young received word that three young Mormons were attacking an unsuspecting wagon train traveling down Mount Carmel Road near what is now called Provo Canyon Park in American Fork Township (). Captain David Whitmer ordered his troops cavalry troopers onto the scene; however, after only minutes fighting uncertainty reigned among Whitmer’s troops as to whether or not they should pursue or help the Mormons who had justifiably been attacked by locals instead of hostile Indians. LDS Apostle Orson Hyde arrived on horseback with orders from Brigham Young himself authorizing him “to put an end thereto immediately” if necessary: When Hyde finally arrived on site it was too late; all three Mormons had already killed themselves before being subdued by whitmer’s troops.]] Aftermath: The citizens of Cedar City petitioned President James Knoebel for authorization to build a fortification around their city self-defense measures failed because no one wanted military activity taking place within town limits which jeopardized cultural interactions between LDS church members living outside town limits while also infringing upon Church Property rights.]] In 1840,

American Fork, Utah is a town in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2000 census. The town was founded in 1847 by Brigham Young and his men as a station on the overland trail from Nauvoo to Salt Lake City. American Fork grew rapidly after it was platted in 1852 by John Sorenson and others as the hub of an agricultural township. The town became one of the major agricultural towns in southeastern Utah when irrigation systems were developed there in the 1920s. American Fork has since diversified its economy into several sectors including retail trade and real estate development. In recent years, American Fork has become a center for Latter-day Saint (LDS) religious activities through its temple complex and associated museum.

American Fork, Utah was founded in 1847 by Jacob and Emmeline US Grant. The town was named after American Fork Creek, which flows through the area. American Fork is located on the Wasatch Plateau in Kane County, Utah. It is a small village with a population of around 950 people. The first European to visit American Fork was Captain John Smith in 1795. He encountered Native Americans while travelling through the area and they were hostile towards him. After his visit, some Englishmen built a cabin near American Fork Creek for themselves in 1796. In 1800, Colonel George Rogers Clark visited America Fork and discovered gold nearby. This led to the discovery of many other mines in southern Utah and western Nevada during this time period. In 1847, Jacob Grant founded what would become American Fork Village on land that he had purchased from the Paiute Indians. The grant included 1/8 mile of water frontage on both sides of Indian River which would later be developed into an artificial lake known as Lake Powell by Moses Holland in 1902-1903). The town was initially called Grantsville because it was Located about one-fourth mile away from Grantsville Station on Mormon Trail (later renamed Park City). By 1850, all other villages within Kane County had been renamed after Ulysses S Grant or President James Kobert Garfield. The growth of American Fork Village coincided with that of neighboring Salt Lake City which began growing rapidly due to its location at the junction of two major wagon roads: Brigham Young's Grand Junction Road and Senator Stephen Teller's Stansbury Lane Road (the "Highway OF THE DEAD"). By 1855, Salt Lake City boasted over 10 thousand residents while American Fork Village had only around 900 people living within its limits at its peak; however, this rapidly growing city soon outgrew American Fork Village and it ceased to exist as an independent municipality upon Jacobs death in 1861 Americanfork continued to grow slowly until 1870 when it exploded into growth due toFFFFF several factors including numerous LDS Temple construction projects completed throughout centralUtah during this time period; increased railroad travel through Kane County due to construction of the Union Pacific Railroad between Cache Valley and Provo; increasing demand for goods caused by settlers moving westward following Mormon leadership's pronouncement that polygamy would no longer be practiced under any circumstances;and finally, rapid populationgrowth resulting fromKIUUU immigrationof Scandinavian farmers who arrived via boat alongsudwest coastof North America during this time period
American Fork, Utah is the location of Utah's first capital city and the seat of government for the American Fork County. It was founded in 1847 by Latter-day Saint pioneers as a merchant town on the banks of the Great Salt Lake. The capital was moved to Ogden in 1855, and it became an agricultural center during the early years of Mormon settlement. During World War II, American Fork served as a major airbase in southern Utah.
