In 1851 America Fork became a territorial county seat after it was annexed by Provo City; however, it remained primarily a farming community until 1959 when it became an incorporated city with its own government and mayoralty system.

American Fork, Utah is a small town located in Logan County, Utah. The population was 1,536 as of the 2010 census. American Fork is one of the oldest settlements in Logan County and has been developing since the 1820s. In 1847, Brigham Young founded what would later become American Fork. America Fork was named after John A. Mormon, who had come overland from Illinois in 1827 searching for a new home for his church and people. American Fork is known for its fruit trees and farming industry. The town's farms produce cabbage, apples, carrots, potatoes and other vegetables; cattle; wheat; eggs; butter; cheese; lumbering products such as oakum (a type of gumbo), live oak logs and rafters used in roofing and framing building projects; sandstone quarries that produce marble and clapboard door hinges; and pottery which produces amethystine ware (a type of glass) and hotchpotchware (a type of ceramic). The Potters Institute offers instruction in traditional Potterry techniques to those interested in learning more about this important part of Utah history. The first post office at American Fork was established on October 10th, 1876. The name changed to Logan on November 3rd, 1880 due to the opening of an adjacent post office called Cedar City by President James K.'Mahon with the same name. American Fork experienced growth during World War II with many manufacturing businesses locating here including war bonds production plants for Boeing Aircraft Company and Lockheed Martin Corporation In 1960 residents voted to incorporate as a city but local politics stymied this effort until 1976 when American Fork voters approved incorporation into the city limits without any municipal services being provided until 2002 when all municipal services were discontinued effective January 1st due to budget cuts by then Mayor Don Huffman . Currently there are no plans or aspirations late towards re-establishing municipal services given that they currently provide most everything functions within the town governance system including streets/lightning/water systems etc., thanks again to priorMayor Don Huffman!
