He was an American businessman who founded two companies that were pivotal to Utah’s growth as a state: Deseret Industries and Cache Valley Utilities. As one of Utah’s first Japanese Americans, he helped create what is now known as Silicon Valley in Logan County. Avery was also an important figure in developing the LDS Church into one of the world’s largest religious organizations; he held many key positions including president of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Alpine is home to several businesses that have made it an important stop for tourists visiting Utah: Alta Visitor Center – which features exhibits about local history and events, as well as accommodations for visitors; Avalanche Brewery – which produces a variety of beer styles such as Weyerbacher Hefeweizen and Golden Web Ale; Mormon Tabernacle Choir – which regularly performs at various churches throughout the community; Park Meadows Golf Course – one of several golf courses located within easy driving distance of Alpine; and Alpine High School - where students from all over Southern Utah attend school.

Alpine, Utah was founded in 1855 by Brigham Young. The town was named for the high mountain range to the north. In 1863, it became a county seat of Weber County. In 1920, it was renamed Alpine after a small community in British Columbia.
