Wylie, Texas is a small town located in the heart of Texas. The population was 3,451 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls-based TX Central Time Zone. The town was founded in 1886 by wagon train drivers and settlers on the now abandoned railroad bed between Wichita Falls and Odessa. Wylie's ZIP code is 77592. Wylie's name comes from cattle drives that passed through its area while traveling to market in Midland County. The first post office in Wylie opened on November 1, 1886. By 1907, Wylie had a school and two businesses - a general store and an undertaker's office - both of which continued to function until 1925 when they closed due to lack of funding. In 1916, John Wesley Hardin purchased land adjacent to present-day Wylie from James Haney for $2,500 cash plus interest. Hardin named his ranch "Wyatt" after General William Troup (1814-1885), who served as commander of Union forces during the Mexican-American War and later became president of Texas A&M University (now Baylor University). Wyatt Ranch originally comprised about 20 acres (8 ha) with single-story adobe buildings measuring 25 feet by 40 feet (11 m × 15 m). In 1923, Hardin donated another 10 acres (4 ha) to make up for lost acreage during World War I; this addition included a modern day parade ground measuring 30 feet by 50 feet (12 m × 16 m). Political subdivisions were created within Wylie Township in 1928: each had its own mayor and council members elected at large rather than via districting process used for townshipwide elections held every four years. In 1942, residents voted to incorporate as a city; this action brought about significant changes including passage of city ordinances establishing public services such as water supply and sewer systems; constructing streets and parks; establishing fire protection;and granting voting rights to women citizens over age 18 living inside city limits at that time. After more than five decades as just an unincorporated communityspeople refer to it simply as "WYLIE", the city officially adopted its current name on July 1, 1984 when all other localities within TX Central Time Zone renamed themselves accordingly

A second store opened on Main Street in 1903 but also burned down within months of opening. The next largest structure built on Main Street was probably the First Baptist Church which was constructed between 1907-1910 at a cost of $5,000 dollars. This church served as bothWylie's primary religious institution and local political center during its early years. It has been said that this church may have been inspired by Methodism's Brother James McMillan Chapel located near Fort Worth (now Arlington). After World War II ended, Wylie began to slowly rebound from its post-war slump; however, economic conditions deteriorated throughout the 1970s and 1980s leading to significant reductions in both jobs and services available to residents of Wylietown center Additionally, drug addiction became increasingly rampant due to limited resources Available outside of Dallas County . As a result of these factors Wylie experienced significant decline over time culminating with its final closure back in 2000 In recent years there has been some effort made to revive interest within the community via various events such as committee meetings while also hosting fundraising events throughout summertime
