Wylie is a small town in Texas, located about an hour south of Dallas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,088. In 1853, General James Hogg purchased land near present day Wylie from Ewing for $2 per acre. Hogg rebuilt an old farmhouse which he called “Hogg House” and developed it into a community that became known as Wylie. In 1865, A&P Feed & Grain built a plant on Railroad Road just south of today’s intersection with FM 214 Business Loop (US 287). The plant remains one of the most significant business entities in town to this day and has helped contribute substantially to thevilery economy during its more than 100 years existence. A&P also donated much money towards building various physical buildings throughout town such as libraries and churches over time – something that still impacts how people view their hometown today! Today, there are several businesses located within walking distance of each other that support local economies while providing services such as grocery shopping or movie watching/entertainment outside these businesses on many occasions during weekdays! Wylie, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and is located on the edge of NorthDallas County. The town dates back to 1881 when Wylie Post was organized as a cattle rancho by rancher J.P. McAllister and his wife Carrie (née Robertson). The first post office was established in 1882, and Wylie became an incorporated village in 1907 after three years candidacy by citizens under the name “Walking Springs”. During World War II, Wylie played host to Camp Blanding which trained servicemen for battle in Europe. In 1949, Wylie voters approved annexation of Arlington Heights which made it the second largest city in Dallas County after Dallas proper; however, annexation never took place because Arlington Heights voted against it 3-2%. In 1966, construction began on the current high school which opened in 1969 and was dedicated by then-Gov Lyndon B Johnson as part of what would be called "the New Cowboys Program". The program provided financial support for local schools through state government funding that had been eliminated since 1965 due to budget cuts known as "the Great Society Revolution". The school has since seen many growth pains due to changes within Dallas County - such as annexations - but it remains one of District 8's most popular schools with students from all over the county coming to attend its classes each semester.
Wylie was founded in 1871 by W. A. Hogg and J. L. Hogg, two lawyers who had come to Texas from Missouri. The town was named for General Wylie, a Ulysses S. Grant veteran who had fought in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. In 1896, Wylie became an independent city with its own government and fire department. The city annexed neighboring towns in 1915 and 1914, but it reverted to its original status as an unincorporated community after each annexation.
