Wylie, Texas is home to the largest concentration of firearms manufacturing in the Lone Star State. The town was founded by Texans who desired to keep their guns safe from rust and thieves. Over time, Wylie has become a hotspot for gun enthusiasts of all levels of interest and expertise. From shootouts at the local fairgrounds to learning how to load a shotgun, there's always something happening in this small town that attracts shooters from all over. The history of firearms in Wylie can be traced back to 1849 when James Hogg organized a group of farmers in what is now the town of Wylie. They were looking for ways to protect themselves from robbers and other criminals who would steal their crops and property. In order to do this, Hogg formed a company that manufactured cannons and other weapons. The company grew quickly and soon became known as the "Gun Makers' Company." Over time, other groups began manufacturing guns in Wylie as well. In 1874, Mayor A C White formed an organization called the Citizens' Rifle Association with the goal of providing citizens with affordable rifles for self-defense purposes. The association continued to produce firearms until 1924 when it merged into another group called the National Rifle Association (NRA). Today, NRA members can purchase any type of rifle or shotgun they want online or at participating gun dealers across Texas. Throughout its history, Gun Makers' Company has been responsible for creating some oftexas' most iconic firearms such as the Colt Model 1911 pistol and Winchester model 781 rifle. Additionally, they have produced numerous handguns including Browning Hi-Power pistols and Smith & Wesson revolvers. Today, Gun Makers' Company still manufacturesguns in Wylie but specializes in repairing old firearms rather than building new ones. This tradition started out as an effort by founder James Hogg to ensure that his products would continue being made quality long after he passed away.

The Wylie Rifle and Shotgun Association was formed in 1903. Around 1912, a lever-action rifle called the Western Gun Company was started in Wylie. By 1915, the company had become known as the Wylie Rifle & Shotgun Company. The company produced rifles and shotguns until it closed its doors in 1921.
Wylie, Texas is a small town in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Wylie is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town is named after John A. Wylie, an early settler and rancher who died in 1892. The first settlers in Wylie were farmers and their families who arrived from Illinois in 1851. By 1860, many of these pioneers had moved to what is now the city of Richardson near Dallas. In 1870, a group of men from nearby Decatur decided to name the new settlement "Wylie" for John A. Wylie, one of their number. John A. Wylie's death occurred on October 10th 1892 when he was shot by a ranch hand while driving his horse across a bridge over the Trinity River near present-day McKinney while trying to return home from market shopping with his wife and two children: Anna (born 1849) and John (born 1850). His widow married James Prentice shortly thereafter and they moved into a log cabin which they built on the property that became known as "The Gables." Over time many other families also settled here including those from McKinney who constructed homes on land that still stands today just east of Interstate 20 outside Garland Texan Expressway off I-20 exit 2605 (now FM 1960). In 1931 there were only 640 residents living in what later became Wylie proper with most people commuting toDallas or Fort Worth; however, by 1990 there were over 12300 residents within its limits! Main Street remains unchanged since it was first traveled by wagonloads of goods during pioneer days until recently when local businesses have taken up residence along Hwy 290SRN between US 75W & IH 35E - making this one busy little town! As much as we might like to try and forget about our past we cannot help but learn more about it through our history books and personal experiences – so be sure not to miss out on all that has happened here since your ancestors began farming this land some 240 years ago!
