Wylie, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Wichita County seat and county seat of Wichita Falls. Wylie is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town was founded by John Wesley Powell in 1868 as a trading post on the Arkansas River between Wichita Falls and Decatur, Kansas Territory (now Oklahoma). In 1871 it became an incorporated village when all of Wichita County except for one small piece east of Wylie were annexed to new Mexican territory called Nuevo León de los Estados Unidos y Provincia de Texcoco as part of their efforts to gain independence from Mexico. In 1907, Wylie became an independent city after being rejected by both Wichita andDecatur Counties for incorporation into either entity; it was re-approved by those counties only after Congress passed an act which designated Wichita Falls as its county seat. By 1920, however, Wylie had outgrown its smalltown status and had become one of the largest cities in Texas with a population over 100,000—the first city to be created within limits granted by Texans to themselves since Austin had been chartered as a college town in 1836. The growth continued through the Great Depression years until World War II when construction began on what would become known as "The Wall", or downtown's main business district where Interstate 20 crossed Dodge City Road just north of downtown; this project effectively halted Growth Blvd., which ran along Main Street between University Drive and I-20 before turning northeast towards Interstate 10 just south of downtown; Growth Blvd.; finally becoming I-30A about 2 miles northwest of downtown near US 85/I-35E prior to rejoining Main Street again just eastinside Downtown (and now home to what used to be known locally simply as "Downtown"). They continue this trend during The 1950s through 1970s - although there were some major setbacks such as construction on I-10 eastbound concurrent with freeway building that completely destroyed much older Historic Downtown - but eventually DFW regained most if not all its lost ground back during that time period due largely to suburban sprawl rather than any real economic decline within town itself despite being unofficially listed amongst 'Second City' residents designation given thereto circa 1990 Census timeframeamong other things ostensibly because more people living thereabouts commute into DFW than does actually reside within any single community situated therein geographically!

By 1800, Wylie had become an important trading hub for farmers throughout central Texas due to its location at the junction of two major routes connecting East Tennessee with West Texas and Mexico City with Austin. During World War II Wylie played an important role in providing materials for munitions production within central Texas. In 1943, Mayor J C Hogg adopted a resolution requesting that Nazi Germany be designated as “a threat to peace” because of their aggressive policies towards other nations (including Great Britain). This led to increased tensions between American citizens and Axis powers alike- which ultimately led to World War II when Nazi Germany attacked America. Following World War II, local businesses such as steel mills thrived because they could use local materials in their products instead of importing from abroad. However, factory closures announced by President Ronald Reagan during his time in office forced many small towns throughout America to compete against each other for jobsites and limited tax breaks (which often favored larger cities). As a result, many small towns have failed or are struggling financially today despite having long histories OF economic success dating back hundreds or even thousands years!
Wylie was founded in 1847 by John W. Wiley and his brother, N.C. Wiley. The town was named after Wylie County, Texas, which at that time included the area now known as Wichita Falls. The first store in the town was built on the corner of Elm and High streets. In 1849, Wylie had a post office and two churches - one called First Baptist Church and the other Methodist Episcopal Church - as well as a schoolhouse and jail. In 1860, Wiley purchased 160 acres of land bounded by Elm Street on the north, Main Street on the east, Haskell Avenue on the south and US-69 on the west. He erected a cotton gin and five hundred acres of corn fields were planted thereon. From this purchase he became sole proprietor of Wylie County Land Company No 1 Agrarian society organized in 1865 to cultivate land for settlers in Baylor County
