This law also limited ammunition sales to those who had proper licenses and paid taxes on each purchase. Although The Gun Law was repealed by Governor John Connally in 1850 due to public outcry, it remains one of Texas' most famous pieces of legislation."

White Settlement did not exist without difficulties; however, it was an important part of American history because it helped form our country's racial makeup and made possible its great social progressivism during the 19th century.

In addition, several large slave auctions took place during this time period – some being attended by President Grant himself! After Reconstruction ended in 1865 following the Civil War, whites continued to settle in Texas while black Texans moved into other parts of the country or left for good following Jim Crow laws which discriminated against African Americans permanently across America.
