Gun chokes were a common way of restraining people during the early days of the white settlement in Texas. They were also used as weapons to shoot at Indians.
Gun chokes use a series of pressure points on the windpipe to prevent breathing. They are often used in order to subdue an opponent who is making attempts to breathe through their mouth or during combat when it is necessary to control an opponent's breathing. Gun chokes can also be used as a self-defense technique if the person feels they are losing air and cannot escape easily.
The first chokes were made in White Settlement, Texas in 1881. The choke type was a simple crescent-shaped piece of metal that was inserted into the guns barrels to limit magazine capacity.
The White Settlement of Texas began in the late 1800s when groups of European-Americans arrived in what is now Baylor County. The settlers were primarily from North America and many came to seek new life and opportunities after fleeing the Revolutionary War. The area that would become Baylor County was part of the Spanish Empire at the time, so there was little opportunity for colonists to settle there. However, over time, pockets of English-speaking settlers began to arrive in the area as well. By 1845, there were over 100 Europeans living in Baylor County. One important factor that helped spur development in this area was a lack of available land. Many Native American ranchers had owned large tracts of land near Wichita Falls, but they sold these properties to white applicants during the mid-19th century because they could not resist cash incentives offered byPropertyowners. This process led to what is known as “White Settlement” – where Europeans took up residence on lands that had once been used by Native Americans for hunting and farming. Settlement in Texas didn’t begin without struggle however. In response to Indian raids and complaints from local chiefs about settler encroachment, General Sam Houston ordered hard military action against Apaches and Texans discovered vast amounts of natural resources inside Apache territory including oil wells and mineral deposits totaling $2 million dollars at one point! These discoveries made it possible for Texans to purchase large tracts of Apacheland which became known as Anglo Land grants – areas that were reserved for white farmers only. Today, White Settlement remains an important part oftx history both statewide and locally due to its impact on modern day culture within the county as a whole (e.g., Waco). For example, nearly half a century after its inception, White Settlement continues as one of Brazoria County’s most visible landmarks with its iconic courthouse complex located just outside Waco city limits – evidence that even today many people from this area are proud Texans who identify with their heritage directly or indirectly
One of the earliest firearms to use a choke was the musket, which had a crossguard that allowed the user to fit a number of different types of balls into the barrel. The early muzzleloaders used shotgun rounds, which were too soft and easily burst. To prevent this, some rifles featured a type of choke called a "buttstock choke." This consisted of fitting an extra piece onto the stock near the breech for holding back rounds so they wouldn't enter your mouth or nose as you fired. Chokes were also invented for pistols and shotguns, decreasing their firing rate by half or more when using them with certain cartridges such as .22 caliber rimfire. In 1853, John Browning designed his first air-operated rifle that used a gas block to operate one or more chokes in order to improve its shooting accuracy. By 1857, all major firearm manufacturers had chorus systems in place on most models. By 1875, most handguns had been fitted with single-round chokes and all carbines had been standardized with groups measuring 1 inch at 100 yards (10 meters).

In 1836, the Texas Rangers were organized to resist Mexican colonization of what is now Texas. The Rangers were a paramilitary force led by Captain James F. Hogg. As part of the effort to keep Mexican citizens from settling in present-day Texas, the Rangers conducted raids into Mexico and its adjacent regions in an attempt to find new settlers and drive them out. In 1837, Captain Hogg's forces raided some isolated villages in Whatcom County, south of Tacoma, Washington. One resident at the village of White Settlement reported that they "were met with great slaughter" after raiding the village. The Texans who lived near White Settlement believe that their ancestors had been living there for centuries before that time. The settlement was founded by Scotsmen who had come westward during the California Gold Rush and established themselves on land that was then part of present-day Washington County, Kansas (now within Union County). By 1840, about 100 people lived at White Settlement and more arrive each year until it reached its peak population in 1851 when there were over 500 residents. By 1865, only a few dozen remained at White Settlement; most likely due to diseases such as smallpox which killed many early settlers in this area. White Settlement is located on a bend in Red River where two branches join: one flowing northwesterly towards Wichita Falls and Wichita City while another flows easterly throughpresent-day Midland County and eventually empties into Gulf Coast Bayou near Beaumont along IH 35W just east of Interstate 10 Exit 278A
White Settlement, Texas was founded in 1836 by white settlers from Kentucky and Tennessee. The area that is now White Settlement was part of the Mexican territory of Coahuila and Tejas. In 1835, Mexican president Santa Anna issued a decree ordering all Native American residents in the area to vacate their land within three months or be deported. A group of white men, led by James Fenton, decided to stay and start a new town named after themselves – White Settlement. When Mexico announced it would recognize Texas as an independent country in 1846, White Settlement became part of the new state of Texas.
